How did our top 2 senate health care negotiators wind up being red state dems?

How did our top 2 senate health care negotiators wind up being red state dems?
Both Baucus and Conrad are from states where their chances at re-election are probably hanging by a thread anyway. Why don't we put some dems with less to lose in these positions of power?

Failure by design.

Health Care reform was set up to fail on purpose.

2. I'm thinking I read there are 13 on the committee and Baucus selected 6 for the health care plan
I could be wrong, but it seems to me all 13 ought to be in on this.

3. It's what the Dem's do. They put people that are politically weak...
at home in powerful national positions. Whether it's Reid, Daschelle, etc, etc.
It happens so often I could believe it's done by design to purposely limit progressive legislation.
