Street flooding in New Orleans this afternoon
and there's not a hurricane near the Big Easy. Just heavy rains. It don't take much to cause flooding when you're below sea level.

1. No flooding in my neighborhood.
It has been raining like mad and the thunder has been deafing.

7. Well, as you know, NOLA is rather large.
It is possible it is flooding in parts of the city, but outside the FQ, it isn't. We do get, what I call mini-flash floods, from heavy rains. The drainage in this city SUCKS! Of course, it has been raining for almost a month now. We get a few days without rain, but for the most part, it has been nothing but rain showers and believe me, my sinuses tell me so!

9. We haven't been down
since Satchmo Fest. Looking forward to a nice cool fall weekend to spend in the quarter. I recall driving through some incredibly flooded streets in the city.

11. Yeah, it sometimes does flood as you say,
just not very often in my neighborhood... though, I did swim home from school a few times when I was a kid, with rats and floating garbage cans. BLEH!

Nice to see you BOSSHOG! :hi: Y'all come back, ya hear! :D

13. I hope it is cool this fall.
Don't get me wrong, there are some streets in this city that flood when people spit in the street. The CBD and Lower GD flood all the time. The water subsides quickly after the rain stops, but if you get caught in it, it is a real pain in the ass. It is when one wishes his/her car could turn into a boat with the push of a button. We are just hoping we don't get a hurricane this year because the water in the Gulf is so hot right now. According to the Farmer's Almanac, there is supposed to be a hurricane in late September, but it could hit anywhere from west of NOLA to the Alabama shore.

NO WHAMIES! NO WHAMIES! NO WHAMIES!

10. I guess it is a matter of perspective.
I had been living in Brasil for most of this year, in a city where where, by comparison, New Orleans is the size of a neighborhood. Over a million people have lost their homes in the northeast of Brasil due to recent flooding caused by regional climate change. Often the streets were like rivers. :wow:

5. "King Creole" was on TCM last night.
Elvis Presley film with wonderful location photography of the streets of NO. It brought back fond memories of a beautiful city. Hoping you get through this season okay.

12. Claudette decided to drift west instead of heading north
like a lady. I hope she makes a turn soon or NOLA will be in trouble with all that shitty workmanship on the levees.

Keep your eyes on Ana. She might turn mean once she hits the Gulf.
