Why do these annoying phrases continue to the point of obnoxiousness?

Latest: "conversation" and its ear splitting bastard step child: "conversate"

1. I can't stand Palin's fave:
progress, with the accent on the second syllable and used in a totally nonsensical way.

3. What's wrong with conversating?
The last time I conversated with someone I learned a lot. We were conversating over a couple of beers, and when were done, I understood that it's important to conversate from time to time, just to keep my hand in.
