1. I'm a vegetarian who thinks PETA has done some good...
but that is so utterly tasteless as to be mindboggling.

2. I've met plus-sized vegetarians. As to the billboard, I would have reacted the same way the woman
in the article did.

But God knows trying to shame me into losing weight has _never_ worked, and actually has usually led me into the binge from hell instead. *sigh*

3. Statistical Clustering
White People are fatter than Blacks.
People from Michigan are fatter than Minnesota.
People with a pool in their back yard are skinnier than people with Jacuzzis.

If someone where willing to pay for it, I'd eat myself overweight and get diabetes on a vegetarian diet.

6. So you don't understand at all
If people from Michigan are fatter than people in Colorado, it doesn't mean Michigan made them fat.
If white people are fatter than blacks, it doesn't mean being black makes you skinny.
If people who eat vegetables are skinny, it doesn't mean eating vegetables made them skinny.

4. Aaah PETA, ever the fount of sensitivity and intelligent criticism.
Why do I get the sinking feeling that this campaign was set up by some size-0 rich white girl who has never had a problem with either her finances, her diet, or her weight.

Folks, it's not the message, its the medium. Going vegitarian, or at least lowering one's intake of meat is a good goal, it's good for your health and good for the environment. Using mockery to emphasise the point achieves nothing. It reinforces the harmful body stereotypes in this culture, particularly the misogynistic ones, and further alienates the public from your goals.

No matter how laudable the goal is, if it is not pursued with humility and wisdom, it will eventually destroy itself.
