Where Are the Taliban Getting Money? You Don't Want to Know.
Yet another example of the reality of conflicted alliances and endless layers that define the politics of the Afghan occupation. The black/white simplicity used by the American media to propagandize this occupation would almost be laughable if it weren't so self-destructive and murderous.

Funding the Afghan Taliban
Who is financing America's enemies? You don't want to know.

KABUL — It is the open secret no one wants to talk about, the unwelcome truth that most prefer to hide. In Afghanistan, one of the richest sources of Taliban funding is the foreign assistance coming into the country.

Virtually every major project includes a healthy cut for the insurgents. Call it protection money, call it extortion, or, as the Taliban themselves prefer to term it, “spoils of war,” the fact remains that international donors, primarily the United States, are to a large extent financing their own enemy.

“Everyone knows this is going on,” said one U.S. Embassy official, speaking privately.

...

The degree of cooperation and coordination between the Taliban and aid workers is surprising, and would most likely make funders extremely uncomfortable.

4. One more time.
Jimmy Carter, at the behest of Zbigniew Kazimierz Brzeziński, signed the legistlation to fund, arm, and train the taliban in July, 1979....not November/December as is the current myth.

The US openly paid the salaries of all taliban officials right up until 1999, and possibly even after that, at least covertly.

I suspect that almost everyone in the world knows that; it's only North America that hasn't gotten the news yet. But it is quite true, and Brzeziński admitted it to Le Nouvelle Observateur. Of course, that version of events was cut out of the North American version.
