Bring a laser pointer to the next Presidential Town Hall in an open carry state...
and shine it on the back of the head of the idiot/s who are carrying.

I'm told by certain DUers that these aren't really in use by snipers (Secret Service) but wouldn't it be fun to watch the idiot wet his pants when people ask why there's a red laser sight on his noggin?

4. Oh, one of his buddies would tell him, right away.
He'd know. Besides, it's not that easy to hold a laser pointer steady. You'd graze his eye with it, no doubt. It'd probably scare the crap out of him, too. However, I'm not sure what the law is about flashing people with lazer pointers. Could be a problem.

16. that is a funny visual
sorry about the lameass people here who don't have enough of a sense of humor to know it was humor. I don't think there will be a healthcare option for the congenitally humorplegic.

At any rate, using a laser pointer in a crowd with a security force present is akin to shouting fire in a movie theatre - probably not a wise idea.

But still funny.

15. This is a stupid idea. People could get hurt...
And why do this when it is legal to be armed? If you don't want a gun..fine..but keep your mouth, your posts and your paws off people's guns that want their guns. Our founding fathers knew it was important for the people to be armed. I just don't think you know more than they did.
If you trust the government so much you want to give up the right to bear arms thats fine..but most of us don't and for damned good reason.
Show us where a nation that gave up their arms remained a free society and sooner or later didn't have a dictator take over and we might think about it.

Somalia... Syria... to a point Myamnar...Congo, Rwanda, not only machetes there... and it had a nice genocide to boot... yugoslavia... should I go on?

Having guns guarantees nothing... except in the land of myth many Americans love to live in.

Here is a piece of reality. the US was never as armed as it is today, not even in the REAL west. In fact, the Real West had quite a bit of honest to goodness gun control.

Oh and here is another secret, shh don't tell anybody, gun control is not gun grabbing, that is pure NRA propaganda... cui bono? It is not the people, that's for sure

58. Many of the new gun owners, and a sizeable fraction of us long term ones practice
Even those who hunt once a year site their weapons annually. There were no practice ranges except for the military in Iraq.

Its not racial, its societal and opportunity. Those in IRG and others were quite competent with their weapons. Its practice, practice, practice.

61. When you live in a desert you don't really need a formal range to learn to shoot..
It ain't rocket surgery, sight picture, sight alignment and BRASS, once you learn it's like riding a bike, you might get a bit rusty but it never goes all the way away. I didn't pick up a gun for over twenty years, just wasn't interested, but when my Marine son in law got out his Glock I surprised both of us by grouping tighter than he could.

Now I practice indoors or in my back yard with an airgun usually at least once a week, I'm considerably better now than I was forty years ago when I was on my HS rifle team and better than when I was a Marine too.

62. I've spent a fair amount of time in the region...
Never seen a civilian practice marksmanship there. I even asked about it a few times. One of my local friends pointed out to me that to infer that some one needed to practice would be offensive. He also said that the holy warriors believe that Allah will take care of that part of things. Thus my comment about it being a cultural thing.

The professional militaries in the ME clearly have gotten beyond that, but the irregulars have not. The ambushes in Iraq and Afghanistan would be much deadlier if there was broad fire discipline and marksmanship training.

93. It is rocket science but it is science.
Most Iraqi's even the "trained ones" in military or Police have no concepts of sight picture or even that the weapon has sights.

They also don't use safety prefering to hold down the trigger with no round in chamber and walk around with trigger held down routinely.
To fire (spray & pray) pull the chamber handle to slam a round into the chamber and hang on.

Ask your Marine son about the IP and their lack of understanding of what most firearm users consider the absolute basics.

It's funny yet it isn't yet fathoming the twit wetting his trousers when overhearing people asking...

I always loved black comedy. What's the American term again, "dark humor"?

68. as funny as the visual is, and yes most of these guys ARE essentially cowards
they are looking for excuses.

So I say ignore the crazy uncle. Also sometimes uncle gets really, and i mean this, REALLY unhinged... and they already have rounds chambered, am betting.

Now I know the sniper should beat him to clearing leather, but why take the risk?

71. my predictions -- no DUer will do this
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 10:41 PM by onenote
First, anyone who does that will find themselves speaking to the secret service pronto. They don't like it when civilians mess around with the folks they are watching. Apart from its being a distraction, the service won't know whether that is some sort of signal being sent to the person they're watching.

Second, I doubt any DU will do this, hopefully because they're smart enough not to, but at very least because the one's thinking about doing it are probably all talk. Which in this case is a good thing.

82.  The defensive projections are quite dramatic
Suggest bringing a laser pointer to a Presidential press conference and you get a thread filled with "don't take my guns", and "the New World Order...", "Iraqi's are bad shots", etc.

The defensive projections are quite dramatic.

86. I love ya but I think that's it's a bad idea
Pointing lasers at armed people with elevated adrenal levels can only incite disaster.

90. Silly idea...
but, nonetheless...

how many people here are aware that inexpensive (even expensive ones), red laser pointers are ineffective or useless during daylight hours?

92. I'm thinking about holstering a squirt gun....
and attaching one of these to a strap to wear on my shoulder:

I think it would be more productive to demonstrate how ridiculous they look.
