I recently needed some help finding death records from over 30 years ago.I won't divulge the details but it is a family issue long unresolved.

I found a link to the local PD dispatcher. i wrote a short note requesting information on my fathers death. I was amazed to get a near immediate reply on a Sunday. The dispatcher politely informed me he had forwarded my request to the FOI.

I was contacted today & asked pertinent details, given a case # and a contact person!!!

I'm suspecting this whole goverment can't run things is just for us lucky Americans...

Best dang public service I ever had. I thanked them in a follow up e-mail & just wanted to share my experience

But here in America?. Ha! Try & get help/sympathy & ussually all you get is a wait & a form letter.
Thats what you get when you have people who hate goverment in charge of hiring & setting policies.
then they decry-Government is Baaad(waah!)...It doesn't Woooork(waaah!)...
Yeah-it doesn't help that you threw a wrench in the public machine, drained the oil & siezed the engine....
Grover Norquist go fuck yourself!

1. Like Thom Hartmann says
it makes no sense to put people who don't believe in government IN CHARGE of government.

It's like appointing the fox as Henhouse Security Chief.

2. I was involved in a study of the Harry & Louise campaign in the 90s.
It involved only one state (Oklahoma) where the campaign was broadcast -- of course, it was on CNN nationally, but cable penetration was much lower then.

We found no lasting effects on support for healthcare reform; but the temporary effects of reduced support occurred at the critical time when reform was still on the agenda. A rebound of support didn't matter once reform was dead in Congress.

However, there was one lasting effect in the time after the H&L campaign was over: continuing higher antigovernment sentiment.

3. The first shots were fired in 1981
Reagan's Destructive Revolution

"The first shots were fired in 1981, not 2001; the Reagan revolution began over two decades ago.

Reagan's unshakable conviction that the federal government was the nation's biggest domestic problem, and his efforts to constrain it, severely reduced that government's capacity to serve the American people and undermined representative democracy.

His commitment to an unfettered free market, deep reductions in the top income-tax rates, and massive deregulation for businesses greatly increased the political power of the wealthiest citizens and corporate America. A straight road to plutocracy lay open.

With Reaganism dominating public thinking during the 20 years before the Bush presidency, the Republicans had in place a solid base to launch the blitzkrieg that firmly entrenched the plutocratic regime."
