From Organizing for America... the Public Option is NOT DEAD. Please stop the spin!!!!
Folks - the press went hyper yesterday on the public option - despite the fact that what Gibbs and Sebelius said was the same or similar to what has been said in the past. Our position and what we should be saying is what Jim Messina and Linda Douglas said yesterday:

Linda Douglass (comm director for White House Office of Health Reform): "Nothing has changed,” said Linda Douglass, communications director for the White House Office of Health Reform. “The president has always said that what is essential is that health insurance reform must lower costs, ensure that there are affordable options for all Americans and it must increase choice and competition in the health insurance market. He believes the public option is the best way to achieve those goals.”

Jim Messina (White House deputy chief of staff): "Nothing has changed. POTUS has always said that what is essential is that health insurance reform must lower costs, ensure that there are affordable options for all Americans and increase choice and competition. He believes the public option is the best way to achieve those goals."

2. If nothing else, the Obama Administration now knows how the left feels about
dropping the public option to placate the anti-health folks in the Senate.

4. I don't see any real commitment here for a public option.
I would like to hear Obama say that he will not sign a bill that doesn't contain a public option. If I heard that I would feel that there was real commitment to a public option.

Also I want to hear Congress say that they can and will pass a bill with a public option with out the 60 votes. It can be done procedurally.

I don't hear either those so I am skeptical that there will be a public option.

Put your money where your mouth is damn it all!

7. he has said that a few weeks ago. Instead of getting angry online
call the whitehouse, call your senator and congressperson, harry reid, baucus, et al and tell them how you feel. A lot of people have been as the whitehouse switchboard has been busy all day. I know as I have been trying to call. Gee, maybe all of this confusion will get the left off of their asses and out to the streets like the small minority of Rightwingers who have monopolized the media coverage. Trust me, the media loves to stoke confusion and anger as it brings them ratings. Remember that. We don't get the same media voice that the right wing gets from the corporate owned news outlets. It was the downfall of Kerry and if it wasn't for the ground game of Obama, it would have been the end of him as well. They had him losing from the beginning!

reminds me of the ones I saw about a month ago that said that single payer was not dead.

"He's dead, Jim."

10. the votes aren't there, and while Obama "supports" it in theory, we're a looooong way from
from seeing any sort of real arm twisting on his part. let the truth be told and deal with it.

11. Sebelius clearly stated she was reciting the White House Position as of yesterday
She is head of DHS, she is the one who I believe is entitled to speak for the Administration. Linda Douglas is not an official spokesperson for the Administration.
