Remote Area Medical spends more time in the US
than in places like the Amazon.

They were founded to spend time in the Amazon, not the US.

That is what is wrong with our health care. I remember seeing the leading edge of this back in the eighties and early nineties... but now it is to the point that it is undeniable.

That said, we have so-called democrats not willing to vote for a public option because it is against freedom and governent can do nothing right. Folks, we have met the enemy, and the enemy is us.

Oh wait, before you say it, we call, we write, we scream... well the other side has been doing the screaming... time that we realize that the political system is inherently broken. We WANT the reform, but the people who got the mandate will NOT do it...

Now here are some of the problems we have...

We have the second greatest obesity rate in the world (Mexico went by us last year)

We have one of the highest rates of diabetes in the world, a lot of it not taken care off.

We have corporations fighing us the people every step of the way and twice on Sunday. Some folks, even here, defend the corporate rights to make a profit, with no limits and no regulations.

Well folks here is the problem. This is the moment where we have to act.

I have said it in the past, we need civil disobedience. This needs to stop. Now if you are not willing to consider civil disobedience, then don't complaint when they end up listening to the money changers at the gate ok.

Oh and don't complaint either when our obesity keeps going up... nobody will restraint corporations and keep blaming individuals.

Don't complaint when you get even more salmonella in your food... yes that is coming too.

And don't complaint when you keep losing house, roof and all that,

Why?

A few loons have the ear of congress, and the money mind you.

Oh and by the way, I suspect this is NOT the change we all voted for... but hey, in the end we will get more of the same. I hope they use KY though...

If the dems can't do the people's work with this majority, what do they need? I am done, by the way if they will not do the people's business, and instead continue to do the corporate business...

1. We had e-coli in our drinking water for over a week. Have to boil before using.

Seems like they are starting to get handle on it.

Update
(8/17/2009 @ 4:00PM)

Per DEP, Boil Water Order remains in place. Sample results returned today (Monday, 8/17/2009) still show a trace of Coliform Bacteria from the Upper Purchase Street area. Water samples are being taken from twenty DEP approved sample sites all around town twice a day. We need to wait on two sample rounds again tomorrow (Tuesday). We expect these results will be available in the early evening on Tuesday, 8/18/09.

Water brought to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute and then cooled is perfectly safe to use for drinking, brushing teeth, cleaning fruits and vegetables, cooking, etc.

Milford Water Company has taken a number of additional initiatives to find the potential source of the contamination, dissect our operations from source to customer tap to identify weaknesses, etc. The main objective is to return the water to a safe, non-bacteria condition as soon as possible.

We will update our website as soon as the results are available which should be by 7:00pm on Tuesday. Please check back then. Thank you.

3. That is the reality I grew up with in Mexico City
you NEVER drank water from the tap...

It is always boiled and it is always filtered.

Boil for at least 20 minutes and then filter.

So yes, welcome to the third world...

And this is exactly what we are NOW... not will become, we already are.

2. There are probably a lot of people like me - zero healthcare for 8+years
I find myself looking enviously at the RAM clinics and wish they'd come to MY area!

4. And you were like the many Ameircans who at times went to
charity hospitals in the border area... I know.

That was the leading edge I saw.

5. What I don't get is how anyone can think this is perfectly fine -
in the country with the best healthcare in the world. Is it such truly small/mean-spirited people who really do NOT want everyone to have care? I think it is. I didn't at first, but now I really do - the people at these town halls appear to be just plain selfish, at the end of the day...
I hope I'm wrong, but that's what I get from them (here in the Bible Belt).

6. Major correction, we do not have teh best health care in the world
that is a cannard... we just don't... Costa Rica (that has a national system) has better care than we do. In some aspects so does Mexico and Cuba. We are number 35 according to the WHO in infant mortality rates, for example and dead last in all standards among OECD nations.

Now that this is out of my chest....

It is petty selfishness, it is propaganda, it is a cultural undercurrent.

I like to put it this way... I got mine, so screw you. That is the attitude.

7. Indeed -
I meant to put "best health care in the world" in quotes :)
And I heartily agree.

8. I just hope that we can get some kind of reform that will work
but at this point I feel we are Charlie Brown and they are Lucy.

If they cannot do it with this majority I give up, seriously. To me it proves that a certain somebody was right.

9. They are planning several more "expeditions" inside the U.S.
this year. I am seriously considering going to them to get the dental, medical, and vision help I need as I am completely uninsured and have serious dental and vision problems.

http://www.ramusa.org/expeditions/schedule.htm

It seems rather sad to me that RAM is having "expeditions" inside the U.S. considering the definition of that word and that an expedition connotes visions of hacking one's way through a remote jungle, etc.
