In all seriousness...what are your options?
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 08:52 PM by Atman
I'm not saying anything is a done deal. I'm looking forward to a "what if" situation.

WHAT IF the Democrats fail in passing real health care reform? WHAT IF this happens? I'm not posting a nattering nay-Bob post. I'm on the good side. I'm asking a serious question, because we're in some serious shit.

What's the fallback? Do you, DUer, get mad at the Democrats and vote Republican? How about you, guy sitting at the 'puter with no pants, suckin' a Corona? Are gonna vote GOP? Gay guy, you gonna vote Repub? Really? That's all it would take to make you sell your soul to the GOP? C'mon! I don't buy it.

Unfortunately, I think the Dems know this. The GOP will do ANYTHING to get what they want, even joining the party as "Blue Dogs." They'll lie, they'll misrepresent themselves, they'll do ANYTHING to assure their quarterly dividends. We Dems are just concerned about making everyone happy.

Democrats continue to believe that all people are inherently good, even those misguided Republicans. THAT will be our downfall.

But, after we're all really pissed off, who the hell are we going to vote for? Palin? McCain? Newt?

Get fucking real (which is what the Dem leadership needs to do). And get some spine. We're the majority.

2. Life-long democrat here....
but I'm about ready to join the Green Party. I'm so disgusted with the dems for not taking charge when we finally have control of the exec. and legis. branches.

3. Where's the meeting?
Seriously. I mean, dead-to-rights serious. "Green Party?" WTF is that?

I know. You know. But we have to communicate to the masses, those who know only "Democrat" or "Republican." The very introduction of a "Green Party" sounds scarily European to most Americans. A viable, realistic third party will be kept from national prominence by the very GOP-controlled media which currently books an hour of Republicans on its Sunday programming to discuss why Democrats are so terrible.

Why do we keep thinking reality will work for us? The GOP media owns the perception of reality. We'll eventually do what they say.

6. At this point, I HOPE the Democrats do not pass any "health insurance" reform.
The plans on the table, if made into law, would be worse than doing nothing.

I do not fear a repeat of 1994. This is a very different time. The Republicans are insane, reflecting their base, and I think the Democratic Party will pick up 3 seats in the Senate and between 3 and 6 seats in the House SO LONG AS we do not pass a disastrous "health insurance" reform bill.

I say fight for single payer. If we can't get it, drop the issue until 2011. Things are only going to get worse, and the people will demand reform soon enough. We can blame our failure to pass reform on Republicans and Blue Dogs.

7. civil dissobedience and third party.
if they cannot get this done with THIS majority, they will NEVER get it done.

This is Lucy and Charlie brown. We are Charlie Brown, and all politicians in power are Lucy.

Think about it, the republicans run on all those family values platform items, and NEVER EVER deliver on them. Our side runs on the Reform platform and doesn't either.

Well they expect us to be good little soldiers. Me, I am done being duped.

14. Agreed.
I've no illusions as to the reality of the Name Brand party collusion, but even I'm finding it hard to believe they set this up to fail the people while specifically aiding the various corps involved in HC. Now that is sick.

12. Real reform is anything...
...that covers more care for more people more affordably.

If Congress can't do that, they are brain-dead and the Republic is lost. The trick is getting them to do any more than the minimum.

We have to keep the pressure on, and make them do it over and over again until they get it right.

15. The key is to focus on WHY they routinely seek the "minimum" for us, & the most for big biz
