President Obama: Afghanistan occupation too big to fail?
"This is not a war of choice," Obama said of Afghanistan. "It's a war of necessity."

7. question remains though
. . . even more prescient now since the president has chosen to escalate the occupation. Let's not pretend that there aren't consequences to his actions as president so far. The stakes for the U.S. in Afghanistan are uniquely tied to the level of our involvement there. The level of 'war' that the president describes his escalation as is a choice, as the size and scope of our military 'involvement' in Afghanistan can have varying degrees of impact in it's purpose and application.

3. Jesus Christ, the stupidity never stops around here, does it?
Wow, congratulations, you managed to usurp a catchphrase that was stupid to begin with, and found an even dumber application for it.

and is the war deficit neutral?

If he could change his mind on forced payments to private insurers he could change his mind about continuing the Bush policy of endless war.

6. I know it sucks.
If he said anything other than this he'd be toast. His duty is to protect this country, and he's trying to do that. Is he getting bad advice? I don't know.

But it does suck. When will it end, for everyone? Will anything be accomplished? I hope so, but I don't know.

8. In my book "protecting" someone doesn't involve making as many enemies as possible
For them.

Which is what we have been doing in Afghanistan for nearly eight years now, just about twice as long as US involvement in WWII.

9. And just what is he protecting us from?
We're in more danger from the deficit all these useless wars continue to run up than from anyone or thing in Afghanistan. Somebody's making money of this fiasco and that's what we're there to protect.

BTW do the oil companies still want a pipeline there?
