Weapons Special Zones coming to free to carry States near you
Did you hear the SS retired agent on the Maddow show?

I went... I know this is not exactly what you said, but this is what you meant. It is the fine art of readying in between the damn lines.

And again, this is a good way to deal with this, and not give them what they want... a nice fast arrest, and a case to go all the way to the USSC.

The Weapons Special Zones, unlike the Free Speech Zones, are not violating anybody's rights, but making sure they keep weapons (like they have been doing so far,) well away from their effective max range. It also makes it easier to watch them. And everybody will be happy, except them crazy uncles that will scream anyway, bout them freedoms to roam not being respected and things like that...

Remember kiddies, when your RW neighbor or relative starts complaining about them... you heard it here first.

And this is a great way to deal with it, without having to fall for their bait.

He might be retired, but something like that... I am sure he talked with somebody before going on air.

1. And the frame jacking is complete
the first time that happens the focus is shifted to a non relevant issue. Gun law, dems want to fuck with your guns, see... If a person with a weapon is a threat arrest or kill them. If not ignore them. Anything else is a colossal fuckup.

3. ah but there you are entering the realm of state vs federal law
in an ideal world we wouldn't be having this discussion because these guys would not have them toys to begin with. But I can tell you so far these guys have not been a real threat... now if they try to clear leather, a 30-06 round is coming down range, to a brain in the crowd, the one belonging to the idiot becoming a threat.

But I can tell you, they will either bring these zones or keep them so far away, that it is the same effect.

They will not arrest anybody, nor will they go and ahem trample on state gun laws. Why? In that sense dems are not that afraid of the people, like george was.

Why will they arrest nobody? They don't want to give them the United States Supreme Court case. Right now, under the current court, they loose.

2. Here's a scenario that went through my head tonight
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 09:49 PM by RamboLiberal
We know there's a rise in RW militias. So what if this becomes the norm in open carry states, people showing up with their AR-15's and AK-47's. Today there were 12, most with handguns. But let's say at some point you have 50 or 100 or more. Today it was said they were 1 block away from site where Obama was to appear.

These crazies could plan to coordinate a rush with their weapons. Theoretically they could cause chaos and overwhelm the protective force and police. I would hope the Service could get their protectee out of the area, but even if they did there would be a lot of bodies and a lot of blood spilled.

Who the hell thought Oklahoma City or 9-11 would happen? I hope all that I'm envisioning is a movie or 24 plot.

6. Mk19 and M249
coax or heli mount, problem solved. 100 dead or soon to be dead or crippled assholes bleeding all over. Believe me, someone with the hardware has already thought of this and how to kill it.

11. This ain't a Bruce Willis action flick hoss,
No 100 neat kills of the bad guys, innocents will get slaughtered. And it only takes one shot, by skill or chance, to kill a president. In the hypothetical case laid out there would be plenty of opportunity for both skill and chance.

But hey, the price is worth it, right, just so long as we keep the right to carry when a president is around.:eyes:

14. Secret Service policy *seems* to be to have a bolt hole where they can get POTUS
to immediately at the first sign of trouble. A firefight would only cause the target to leave and deny either the lucky shot or the sniper any opportunity.

Oh, and the surrounding innocents, where are their bolt holes? Oh, yeah, six feet under.

17. Reagan is one of the reasons crowd screening is so tight today
I personally believe that the goobers with guns are just a distraction and we can use that to our advantage.

A more realistic threat is from pros with heavy weapons.

who seem to belong who are doing recon. You know the ones with the obama T-Shirt who absolutely "belong"... and I know I am not wearing a tin foil when I say that.

You are absolutely correct.

25. You are correct.
in the event of a coordinated attack innocent people would die. See the Reagan footage? if that uzi 9mm was fired, even in controlled bursts, people not involved would be hit. I stand by the comment, force would be used to protect the president.

27. And the Altar of the Sacred Second Amendment will be watered with the blood of innocents
Don't you think that this should be prevented by simply not allowing guns within a mile of the president? Or do you simply want to watch this happen in order to be reassured that this President is not a "gun grabber":eyes:

Would you be willing to spill your own blood in one of these scenarios, just to prove the Second Amendment rules over all? Or just others' blood?

28. Mile is fine, these people are stupid. Remove that hook from your lip
making this an issue shifts the focus from health care to gun issues. It plays into the hands of the people setting up this stageplay.

I would not loose sleep if someone removing a sidearm from a holster took a 308 in the bridge of his nose. Stupid acts have responses.

30. You're making the assumption that people can't concentrate on two issues at once
Both of these issues need to be dealt with.

Question for you, one that I posed earlier. Would you be OK if somebody removed a sidearm from a holster, and you, innocently passing in front of the perp, took that 308 in the bridge of the nose instead? These are packed gatherings, lots of people, lots of moving about, few clean shots, thus the potential for innocent people getting shot instead of the idiot pulling out his firearm.

12. NEVER going to be used by the Secret Service.
This is coming from a 10 year CAV SCOUT in the US Army and yes the MK-19 was my primary weapon system for a portion of that time (along with .50 cal and 25mm chain gun).

The MK-19 can't be used without massive collateral damage in urban area. The lethal radius is 15 feet however that is just the rated kill radius it will fling lethal shapnel (especially against unarmored civilians) up to 50 ft. The blast radius is so variable in training the min safe firing distance is 75m and we never shot it closer than 100m.

When I was in Iraq loading the MK-19 required a direct order from an O-5 or above because the collaretal damage is so catastrophic and that was in a war zone much less main street USA. We said fuck that and left them in the shipping crates and mounted the M2 and side mounted the M249.

26. Correct, they will not use either..
however if "they" had a major problem they have many options. Familiar with the M2, mk19 came in when I left, will it fire 40mm smoke or CS?

31. theoretically it could however...
the 40mm in MK19 is not the same 40mm grenade in the M203. I don't believe there is a smoke or CS round for the Mk19.

If there was a need I am sure it wouldn't be hard to make one.

7. If the SS feels there is such a threat, they will advise as to cancel the event
on the bright side, the limo can take small arms...

And I am sure your scenario is now the current nightmare scenario (and a few others that you or I cannot imagine) for the Secret Service.

Their problem is... state vs federal, and how to defuse the danger, and keep things from going south in many other respects.

Why I foresee either a free weapon zone, or those perimeters so far away... that it essentially takes care of it.

In an ideal world, the SS would like to avoid the issue altogether. Which is, I am sure, one of the goals of these idiots. Why public appearances will continue, but I am betting on some interesting revisions to the perimeters.

9. Or they could just hide the weapons .... wait till they get closer and ...
attack right at the inner security barrier (metal detector).

The idea that any assassination attempt begins with open carry is simply stupid. Rather than detecting the threat at 100ft and seconds from the President they alert you to them 500 feet away, out of line of sight of the President and often hours before the President even shows up. It defies logic.

If there is an attempt on the life of Obama my guess is it looks a lot like the attempted assassination of President Reagan

13. Those are the guys that keep the SS awake at night
but those happen whether you have these cowboys with them guns strapped or not.

For the record, those are the ones that worry me too.

or the other ones, the ones who will place all kinds of toys as near as they can to a venue, read bomb, why they removed a van last week that had a positive hit for the dog. Whether it was carrying fertilizer, the dog would go off, or something else... well if you noticed we never learned.

29. Correct.
the methods attempted in pakistan and used in iraq are much more dangerous. Technology helps some but there are scenarios that probably make the SS very nervous. If it can defeat an abrams tank..

19. Pretty simple
SS will deem anyone near by with fire power a terrorist/enemy combatant, shipped to GITMO and held with out trail until the next GOP president is elected. They will not be water boarded, only made to walk around with pink girly panties on their heads. Problem solve, legally too.

20. No, that is not legal, and you would give them exactly
what they want...

So they will enact something that will be very legal, even if the crazy uncles don't like it, and keeps people save, chiefly their package.

Realize crazy uncles are distractions testing the waters right now. They are not a real threat, as much as they could become a real threat.

Now unlike the Free Speech zones, this keeping them away is very legal, for safety

Oh and in an ideal world, we would not be having this discussion. they would not bring their toys, or simply not have them. We don't live in an ideal world.

22. The Retired agent on Rachel's show said that tomorrow
the Secret Service could decide the protective zone around Obama was now a mile. IMHO this might be a good idea. Weren't the first amendment zones around Bush quite a distance away from his motorcade and events?

23. The two are unrelated
Free Speech zones are not related to protection of POTUS and were not set up by the Secret Service. They are still found today on some college campuses, scarcely bastions of Bushites

Purportedly the Secret Service uses a series of zones. The further out, the less secure and the less control. Its not just firearms, it could be private cars, or even unscreened people. The problem is the higher security zones require many more people per unit of area/cubic. Its a trade the Secret Service makes, and even now they err heavily on the side of caution.

32. The thought of this cracks me up
I remember when the Pres. came to speak at my college. We are in kind of a unique position. Small beautiful green campus that was fully gated with guards etc.. etc.. 1/4-3/8's of a mile out you hit a nasty part of town with projects housing etc and there were a TON of guns there( gangs etc.. )

I can only imagine trying to clear a 1 mile radius there.
