Why can't corporate media just do this?
From the Guardian (UK):
"It is also an effort to push back against what many suspect is a coordinated misinformation campaign by Republican and health insurance industry opponents.
Former Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin last week said falsely
that Democratic legislation would require senior citizens and disabled individuals to appear before a "death panel" of bureaucrats who will decide whether to pay for healthcare. A frequent conservative refrain warns that the Democrats secretly plan to implement a system similar to Britain's National Health Service, and of healthcare rationing by government bureaucrats."

Just put the fact that it's "false", A LIE, right next to their claims ...

Gingrich (etc.) said falsley that the plan contained death panels ...

Republicans said falsley that Obama was not born in the United States ...

etc.

TO REPEAT A LIE IS TO TELL A LIE

4. Yea, I love how "they" debunk rumors only after they've been debunked by
others. They are responsible for giving air time to lies and then, playing the same lie over and over again in soundbytes and 30 sec. clips then, after they set the world on fire, they debunk them. Sometimes.

Tricky, tricky media.

5. When do the fire Dobbs?
CNN is interesting. In March 2008, they ran a story that indicated that Obama's original birth certificate was
lost. That was never the truth. In some ways, it was the spark of quasi legitimacy that kicked the story up
a notch. Then Dobbs goes off giving the birther story credibility after the head of CNN news says the story is
crap. Letting Dobbs do that without a screen text ticker saying "This guy is lying" was a mistake and further
compounded the problem. They ought to decide what their story is.

2. Nothing fair or balanced about the media and they don't want to be, ever.
Fair and balanced would never sell ad spots like a good ole controversy would. Truth doesn't sell even half as well as would rumors and lies. Lots and lots of lies.

but then again corporate media has a stake in this.

That said, the RM show and KO have, to a point, pointed to the lies, Especially the Rachel Maddow show, I wish they all did it though.

13. We'd need a fleet a Rachael's, Keith's and Ed's to take over the 24/7
Corporation of the Media network. This country is starving to death for the lack of real news, we've been dumbed down for so long that I don't think most would even recognize real news if it landed on their rooftop.

We'd also have to ensure that antennae users could receive it and have it available on the basic tiers of all cable/satellite providers.

There is NO counter to the Ministry of Propaganda.

15. Pure truth
I left Ed out. He's really come through - the three are the trifecta!

Full access to all media is a necessity not a luxury. They try to control the internet, throttle political
sites, etc. The reponse is a real Bill of Rights for free access to informaiton (along with a rewrite of
the copyright laws. The new battle cry should be "Remember Pirate Bay!"

18. It's a very reasonable request
But it's not their job to tell the truth and call a lie a lie. It's to "shape" public opinion to the ends
of their owners, the corporations that tell us to bend over and smile. Time for change and time for the
fulfillment of your very reasonable expectation.

17. TO REPEAT A LIE IS TO TELL A LIE
The problem here is that most of us assume that someone doesn't want to be caught in a lie. That is a mistaken notion because as long as their purpose is served they don't care because they don't think we count for anything.

It serves their corporate purpose to promulgate that nonsense of false neutrality which became so prevalent during the Kerry run. They make mire money when they are allowed to run wild and not be regulated. It's all about the green. Further, Obama was right when he says the media loves a ruckus. Fights and drama boost ratings and sell papers.

And of course there are the deliberately ignorant weenies who wouldn't know a lie if it hit them in the face.

19. We are nothing to them.
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 10:52 PM by autorank
Zip, zero, nada so lying to us is like stepping on ants (or in the case of some of them, incinerating ants
with a magnifying glass. Their lies are deliberately dehumanizing Obama to the point where the
psychopathic faction can justify anything after hearing, over an over, these unchallenged claims - he's not
from here, he's not a legitimate president, he wants to kill seniors with "death panels."

They deliberately ran Palin's big lie knowing was a lie without saying it was lie. They are the lowest of the low.

... I'm not talking political danger alone, but physical jeopardy.

We are a laughing stock before the world, with our media spotlighting the most ignorant and violent among us.

30. I'm wondering if the corporate media is trying not
to hurt the town hall screamers' feelings by pointing out that they're flat out wrong and spouting non stop
bull shit? Nah, they're just endorsing the agenda, with all the hate. They bear a huge responsibility for
not telling the truth about lies - 'The town hall protesters falsely claimed Obama wanted death panels.'

28. To stop a war before it starts, one million people march through
The streets of San Francisco and another million in New York and five hundred thousand in Chicago. Then 10,000 plus in every town, village and hamlet.

But the media doesn't see them.

Let 400 teabaggers converge on a City Hall in Podunk, Nebraska, and the media is on it like flies on shit.
