But if we are stuck with them, there are going to be some ground rules.
1. No preexisting condition denials 2. An industry wide government regulated standard for prices (with government subsidization for persons or families that are below a certain set income level. A person or family will not be forced to pay more than a certain percentage of their income towards health insurance.) 3. No copays 4. No deductibles 5. 100% coverage of services 6. No rate hikes 7. No denial of payment for any reason 8. No preferred provider incentives 9. Executive pay caps 10. There will be no money exchanged between the insurance industry and public officials (either directly or indirectly). Violators will be subject to stiff fines and lengthy prison sentences.
I'm sure I am missing something.
If private insurance companies cannot follow those rules, we should dismantle them and construct a new system. It must either be single payer or socialized care.
What gets me is how conservatives can talk about the need for reform. And they would probably agree with most of my rules (at least on a moral level). But the thing is that my system would be so heavily regulated that it might as well be government run. These people simply do not understand what they want. They are being fed bullshit by bought-out politicians and the insurance industry.
If they don't support this, fuck em all. We don't need them. The progressive movement must not be stopped.
