If something tragic happens...
It is dangerously naive to believe that all these people bringing guns to events where the President is showing up are rational, sane, and harmless patriots - only there to promote the 2nd Amendment. There are nuts with guns. Some are irrational and crazy.

Any American that does not speak up on this issue will be personally responsible if something tragic happens. God forbid that something happens but it has happened before.

Those politicians that publicly defend these gun nuts as their right as American citizens will be accessories to the crime. They will make their usual excuses but they will be as guilty as the shooter if something terrible happens. They cannot and will not escape responsibility.

We cannot ignore this issue. We cannot pretend that it doesn't matter. We cannot be intimidated into surrender at the point of a gun. The Republicans that are silent and those that are laughing and defending these nuts will have blood on their hands.

2. And yet it remains at zero.
I guess someone thinks threatening people is just fine.

5. The Secret Service will be complicit if anything happens.
They've openly signalled that it's OK to brandish guns around a Democratic president.

8. No, IMO, the Secret Service is playing it down.
Consider the nuts brandishing the guns as mostly (the vast majority) SHEEP:LE to Authoritarian leaders. They're so awed by their pseudo-idols that they will vote against their own economical best interests.. Right wing nuts have the emotional maturity of petulant pre-adolescent children. Therefore, the last thing you wish to tell unbalanced and immature people is, "you can NOT do something."

If you catch a Secret Service agent in a quiet moment, he/she will tell you, "YES! I wish we could ban guns from Presidential rallies and be done with it."

Remember, we are dealing with emotionally unstable persons who can be lead around by the nose by right wing commentators such as Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh.

7. i also believe this cannot end up well. you have people with guns in a crowd of people...
and shouting and verbal taunts. it only takes one split second for someone with a gun and a short fuse to react and a lot of folks could be hurt or killed. i wonder if these guys with the guns are trying to intimidate people. I know i'd be scared to be around a gun. i just see this coming out quite bad.

12. I think it will be the nut with a concealed gun...
That will start it, encouraged by the ones who decided to openly display them. I doubt very much it will be the ones who are walking around with guns on their hip or shoulder. But some nutbag who is less than stable will see it as the green light to start something, encouraged by the Beck, O'Reilly and Hannity crap.

13. Yes....
interesting that our own gun-obsessed are strangely silent right now...

These idiots are doing more to hurt the cause of lawful gun ownership than anything their opponents might do. The rest of the world looks upon us as absolute morons--letting AR15 toting nuts intimidate those advocating for health care--within proximity to the President (and I tend to agree)

15. Won't happen there - I predict the next gun rampage will be in a bar in Tennesee....
...Tennessee just legalized guns in bars/restaurants where alcohol is served.

Guns 'N Booze - the perfect party mix!

16. Looks like armed rebellion. Arrest, confiscate, and indefinitely detain.
This needs to be nipped in the bud. Zero tolerance for display of firearms.

17. IMO, this kind of activity does not fall under 'responsible gun ownership.

Many municipalities have moved to protect citizens from second hand cigarette smoke, but it's ok to be exposed to a pissed off nutcase with a gun. What the fuck! The second amendment gives them the right to have a gun, not the right to intimidate other citizens by carrying that gun to a heated debate. The unspoken message is: agree with me or else.

some nut job fires off a shot, then all these "macho men" with their ar-15's suddenly all want to be Rambo and shoot the guy. I see a blood bath erupting.

21. Sadly, several friends and I don't think it's going to be 'if'. It's going to be 'when'.
And when it happens we all believe it will be the beginning of the next Revolution.

It's not going to be a pretty time in American history.

24. The Gun Slingers are trying to scare us off health care
Let's focus on winning that debate.
If we focus on the guns, they win the health care issue, and weaken the president.

those dumbasses will have every phone call bugged, every movement watched, every purchase monitored and every tax return gone over with a fine tooth comb from now until kingdom come.

It's the ones they embolden, their fellow dumbasses who HIDE the gun that worry me.
