Exploding iPhones 'isolated incidents', say Apple
Source: Agence France-Presse / RawStory.com

US technology giant Apple has assured the EU that recent cases of exploding iPhones and iPods are “isolated incidents”, a European Commission spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Brussels last week asked Apple to explain the phenomenon after a French teenager’s claim that an Apple iPhone shattered in his face and a case in Britain of an exploding iPod portable music player.

“Apple has come back to us this morning. They consider that these are isolated incidents,” said commission spokeswoman Helen Kearns.

“They don’t consider that there’s a general problem,” and are seeking more information on the reported cases and will carry out any necessary tests, she told reporters in Brussels. For its part the commission has asked the 27 EU nations to keep it informed of any such cases.

6. The consequences of using cheap Li-Ion batteries
They're a much more dangerous battery than most other rechargeables. When they fail, they sometimes fail catastrophically, generating large amounts of heat.

They probably fail less often than other batteries, but tend to get noticed more when they do.

12. That's a risk with anything with a lithium battery.
It's a particular problem with laptop batteries and with cheap aftermarket batteries of all sorts.
