Poll question: If and only if you shop at Whole Foods, are you boycotting them.
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 10:14 AM by onehandle
I'm not letting this go.

On edit: A reminder that Whole Foods CEO John Mackey is Against Health Care Reform and said so in a Wall Street Journal article.

He is behind an initiative to defeat Obama's health care plan. Mackey's invective is found in a recent Wall Street Journal article, in which he quotes former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher: "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."

This is not the right man to run a company that so many Progressives patron. I want him gone.

9. I have to confess that I am surprised that would be the views of one of the founders
then again considering their prices and a little hindsight I shouldn't have been all that shocked.

7. Yes. I was eating dinner there 3 to 5 times a week. I've stopped going.
To be honest, it was not just the CEO op ed that did it for me. The last time I ate there, the TV in the dining area was playing GLEN BECK! The manager on duty told me they let the customers choose what to watch but I'm pretty sure he was lying because the employee whom I asked to change the station told me he couldn't because the manager had the remote. I told the manager I would not be a customer if I found Glen Beck playing when I walked in -- I don't care who wanted it on.

So between the op ed and the TV issue, I haven't been back now for a couple of weeks. I need to find some local alternatives.

8. Shopped there frequently for meats and bulk items--but no longer
I won't let this go either. WF can do whatever it wants itself, but when it starts prescribing for the rest of the nation, nuh uh.

10. I believe in free speech..even when it is speech I don't like to hear!
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 10:59 AM by flyarm
the man has the right ..yes the Born right in this country to say what he wants to say and believe what he wants to believe and I respect that..because that is what our constitution is about.

Now, those who don't want to shop there have the same rights..speak with your pocketbook..

fine and dandy..

but trying to shut someone up because he/she believes differently than you is un-American!

After all I was very vocal for 8 years not agreeing with many of my fellow Americans about a war, a president, social injustices, the constitution being stripped, our courts being destroyed , and many many other things..to try to shut someone else up that doesn't agree with us, makes us the same hypocrites we railed against for 8 years.

11. no one said he doesn't have a right to speak what he believes
so :wtf:

people are saying they have a right not to shop at his store if they disagree with him--that's a wholly different thing than saying he doesn't have a right to speak

14. ?
He will be gone if enough people boycott, and it is our right to do so. Don't boycott if you don't want to. Those who do will be instrumental in his replacement. Who said anything about shutting anyone up?

18. His right to speak does not supersede our right to denounce what he says.
Yet you defend the former and denigrate the latter. Your logic is circular, and makes no sense.

Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 11:40 AM by flyarm
please point that out specifically..thank you.

My point is..go after the right people..not a grocery chain owner that most people in this country have never been in or ever heard of or have in their neighborhoods.

This guy does not effect most people in this countries lives.

But our senators and congress people who get their coffers filled by the insurance corps and Big Pharma do !!!!!!!!!

16. hey put that much energy into going after the senators and congress people who pad their accounts
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 11:05 AM by flyarm
with Big Pharma and Insurance company money and do nothing to help those they work for !

This guy doesn't work for me..by my congress people and senators and president sure as hell do work for me..and I constantly go after them..and I put my money towards those who do the right thing ..even if it means getting those in office ..out of office!

This guy has no bearing on my or my families life..but those Senators and congress people sure as hell do..

I live in two states..and populated states and have no " whole foods " near me in either state..nor do millions and millions of Americans..so how does he effect my life? He doesn't.

But my senators and congress people sure as hell have alot of effect on my life..

that is where my energy will be focused!

example..right here today on DU:
