17. I can't say anything good nor nothing at all.
So, I'll settle for: "Oh, too bad ... now he can't be prosecuted for anything."

There, was that classy enough?

28. Dying from a brain tumor
is a living hell. I know because my 26 year old son died from one. At least Novak lived to 78. The good die young.

40. I'm so sorry for you. Really. My mother died of a glioblastoma 4 years ago.
Her only symptoms were confusion, so that we thought she was developing Alzheimer's, or having TIAs. We were devastated to learn it was a malignant tumor. She was never herself after the initial surgery, and finally chose to stop chemo because the thrush and nausea were unbearable. I miss her everyday.

But she was 73. I'm so sorry you lost your son so young, and that he died from such a terrible disease. I'm sorry Novak suffered this, too. I honestly wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy--and still find myself wondering if there's a genetic component, and if it lies in my future. Here's hoping for better diagnostic and treatment options.

Again, so sorry.

46. Thank you for your kind words
My son had the same kind of tumor. He had no symptoms until he had his first seizures. Three days later he had his first brain operation. one of three. He survived 17 months. Cost of treatment, rad, chemo, operations, intensive care for 3 weeks, palliative care, meds. nurses.; ZERO. Canada health care is superb.

49. Oh, man. You Canadians are so lucky. My dad only recently paid off my mom's bills,
even with medicare. And had to fight with the insurance company to get them to pay out on her long-term care policy for her nursing home stay. My mom knew the American system so well that, even in the midst of her illness, she kept asking how she and my dad could pay for it all. That should be the last concern of a person fighting brain tumors.

Novak told me that when he first arrived in DC from Chicago, he asked who to go to in order to "learn the
ropes," and was directed to my Dad, who had opened the one-man Washington bureau of his one-horse-town newspaper
seven years before. They must have had some interesting discussions over the years, and my dad never lived long
enough to see the Valerie Plame scandal unfold (he died two weeks before Anthony Kennedy and Sandra O'Connor decided
to steal the 2000 election from Al Gore). My father was as staunch a Democrat as any of us (Art Buchwald and Bobby
Kennedy were some other friends of his), so there must have been some lively discussions when he and Novak got
together.

He was an asshole in life and in death he'll be remembered for being an asshole.

I admit that's rather rude of me, but my comments are still worlds away nicer than anything RedShit would put out if Ted Kennedy or Janine Garafolo died.
