Top 50 US War Criminals
Compiled below, in hopes that it may be of some assistance to Eric Holder, John Conyers, Patrick Leahy, active citizens, foreign courts, the International Criminal Court, law firms preparing civil suits, and local or state prosecutors with decency and nerve is a list of 50 top living U.S. war criminals. These are men and women who helped to launch wars of aggression or who have been complicit in lesser war crimes. These are not the lowest-ranking employees or troops who managed to stray from official criminal policies. These are the makers of those policies.

The occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan have seen the United States target civilians, journalists, hospitals, and ambulances, use antipersonnel weapons including cluster bombs in densely settled urban areas, use white phosphorous as a weapon, use depleted uranium weapons, employ a new version of napalm found in Mark 77 firebombs, engage in collective punishment of Iraqi civilian populations -- including by blocking roads, cutting electricity and water, destroying fuel stations, planting bombs in farm fields, demolishing houses, and plowing down orchards -- detain people without charge or legal process without the rights of prisoners of war, imprison children, torture, and murder.

The list below does not include those responsible for war crimes prior to 2001. Nor does it include those currently in power who are making themselves complicit by failing to prosecute or cease commission of these crimes. The list could be greatly expanded. It could also be narrowed. I would argue, however, that it presents a more reasonable starting place than Holder's reported proposal to investigate only CIA employees who failed to comply with criminal torture policies, of whom there are no doubt more than 50.

6. All those people are just tools
The movers behind them are the ones to focus on - the financiers. Paulson, Bernanke, Geithner, Summers, Greenspan, Blankfein, Dimon, Lewis, and so on and so forth. You can get every last person on your list put away and NOTHING will change. They are agents, not commanders.

This country is run by the demands of debt holders, and the longer you look back in history the more evidence you will see that this has been going on a very, very long time. Every war this side of WW2 that this country has been involved in can be traced to them (e.g., just take a look at our obscene history in South America, nation after nation subjugated to make them suitable for commercial plantations, or in the Middle East, for exploitation of oil).

Strike the root, not the branches. All those you name deserve to be put away permanently but don't be fooled into thinking that a single thing will change. They are simply replaced by others who are willing to do the same or worse. We need fundamental systemic change.

12. I would add James Bath to the list
James R. Bath was one of the original investors in George W. Bush's failed oil venture; in fact, he owned 5% of Arbusto Energy. Bath and Bush go way back, to their days as pilots in the same Texas Air National Guard unit during the Vietnam War. Coincidentally, Bath also happens to have been suspended from flying exactly one month after Bush, and for precisely the same reason: "Failure to accomplish annual medical examination."

Despite his protestations to the contrary ("I am not a member of the CIA or any other intelligence agency."), a persistent rumor is that Bath was recruited by the CIA, sometime after he started working as the front man for Saudi investor Salem bin Laden in 1978. (Salem was Osama's older brother who died in 1988.) Evidently, Salem made large investments in the United States using Bath as his proxy. Ultimately, Bath was drawn into the BCCI (Bank of Credit and Commerce International) scandal.

His relationship with the bin Ladens and involvement in BCCI makes him a worthy candidate...

13. That's a hell of a list. And it has brought out the loonies, as per comments.
That is a relatively complete list of the goons who caused so much grief around the planet. That list of names could easily be Satan's guest list, at the risk of sounding overly fundy.

Look at the comments. This has caused a wrinkle in the emotional continuum of the right wing loonies. And that means it hit a nerve. They love their Bolton. You really need to be ignorant in order to not see how damaging that list of people has been. Completely brain dead. And now I know there will be no awakening. They refuse to see the truth that what these people did to the world was anything but awful.

I think most of Nixon's rowdies are dead by now, except for Kissinger and Cheney....but Ronnie's and Poopy's bunch are still free-ranging.

16. Don't you need 2 more cards to complete a deck (jokers?) - Marc Grossman's missing!
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 12:51 PM by cascadiance
One big candidate to add to the list.

- Marc Grossman - Was the real traitor that outed CIA's Brewster Jennings before Scooter Libby or others were said to have done so when Valerie Plame was outed.

18. What powerful Democrats helped Bush sell war to DC Dem lawmakers and other world leaders?
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 12:54 PM by blm
BushInc had some SERIOUS help from a few powerful names back then who used their positions to HELP BUSH sell the war both publicly and privately and then vigorously DEFENDED Bush's war decisions in high profile public appearances.
