Who was Gates talking about yesterday?
So many bloody Imus threads I can't find anything about this...

Yesterday...Gates...
Defense Secretary Robert Gates was literally shaking with anger during a press briefing he just gave about the troops. At one point he actually TOLD people about what it was that happened.

Who was he talking about when he said that someone at the Pentagon made some decision to release info before the commanders had a chance to inform the troops? It appears that whoever made the decision made it without consulting him or anyone else!!

Did anyone see the press conference?

Can anyone tell what it was he said that made him so angry?

Does anyone know the REAL story of what REALLY happened that made Robert Gates... a career CIA operative who can normally keep his anger under control... lose his cool in a press conference... and this was BEFORE the reporters started asking questions!!

:wow:

Soldiers' tours just got longer

April 12, 2007
ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A thinly stretched Army just got thinner.

All active-duty soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan have been informed they will serve 15-month tours -- three months longer than the previous standard. Rather than continuing its recent practice of deciding on tour extensions on a unit-by-unit basis, the Pentagon decided to spread the pain evenly, giving longer tours to all.

<snip>

In an indication of the Pentagon's concern about how hard the news would hit Army families, Gates angrily denounced a news leak of his announcement. ''I can't tell you how angry it makes many of us'' that the leak denied the Army the ability to give families 48 hours notice, as planned, Gates told reporters...

2. Someone leaked the increase in deployment
time the day before, so he held a press conference and tried to present himself as a saint who was going to announce said information yesterday.
Yeh right. I suspect the PC was quickly organized for damage control.

4. Maybe the loyal Rummies at the Pentagon don't like him.
I wonder if he's mad because soldiers and families weren't notified before it came out in the news, or because someone stole his thunder.

When the head apple(Apple in Chief)is an AWOL(BAD)apple, the entire barrel of apples is in a world of deep Doo-Doo, from day one.(Bush can't tell his headquarters from his hindquarters)

Edit...see GROFAZ(maybe it was the new secret "War Czar" that outranked and outflanked the secretary and spilt the beans)

RE EDIT...see Clusterflop ... that is all ... zip ... beep ...
