Who is funding the Afghan Taliban? You don’t want to know
The article by Jean MacKenzie originally appeared in GlobalPost. This is part of a special series by GlobalPost called Life, Death and The Taliban. Click here for a related article Funding the Pakistani Taliban:

KABUL — It is the open secret no one wants to talk about, the unwelcome truth that most prefer to hide. In Afghanistan, one of the richest sources of Taliban funding is the foreign assistance coming into the country.

Virtually every major project includes a healthy cut for the insurgents. Call it protection money, call it extortion, or, as the Taliban themselves prefer to term it, “spoils of war,” the fact remains that international donors, primarily the United States, are to a large extent financing their own enemy.

“Everyone knows this is going on,” said one U.S. Embassy official, speaking privately.

Taliban Funded in Part from Foreign Aid to Afghanistan

The news website Global Post is reporting that one of the richest sources of Taliban funding has become foreign assistance coming into the country. Virtually every major reconstruction project includes a healthy cut for the insurgents in the form of protection money or extortion. International donors, primarily the United States, are to a large extent financing their own enemy. The manager of one Afghan firm with lucrative construction contracts with the US government builds in a minimum of 20 percent for the Taliban in his cost estimates. The manager, who would not speak openly, has told friends privately that he makes in the neighborhood of $1 million per month. Out of this, $200,000 is siphoned off for the insurgents. If the money is not paid out, road workers may be attacked or killed, bridges may be blown up, engineers may be assassinated.

3. As if Democracy Now isn't a credible source. If it ain't FoxNews or CNN it's not real
for the reactionary wing of the Democratic party. :eyes:

5. DN is just citing another source. Another problem with DN
has arisen because despite all her decades of excellent work, Amy began relying, for economic analysis, on a guy who claimed he could turn himself into a lizard and cure cancer.

6. Which source are you disputing?
Or is it all 3 of them? Now of course there are links within the first two sources that you could explore but I know you aren't interested in anything other than reactionary one-liners.

What if I link to one of your news sources and get a piece of corporate manufactured reality would that be credible?

Now even Amy Goodman is too far-flung for Hammie which just puts on display how far to the right you've become as she has been consistent. Guess you're just following the trend.

4. If you can't kill them, buy them? Not a bad idea really.
And, infinitely cheaper than paying for all the high-tech, and useless, gadgets in a lost war.
