Current From Taser Apparently Hit Chemicals, Ignited Flames
LANCASTER, Ohio — New details emerged Wednesday about what transpired before police Tasered a man and briefly caught his shirt on fire.
The incident occurred just one day after Lancaster police officers began carrying the Tasers, which were made available to the department through a grant, 10TV's Lindsey Seavert reported.
Police were called to Memorial Drive on Monday night after receiving reports that a homeless man was inhaling from an aerosol can and running through traffic.
Officers arrived and found Daniel Wood near a K-Mart store. According to police, he was inhaling fumes from a can of keyboard cleaner, Seavert reported.
Wood allegedly ran from officers and was chased down. That's when police said he tried to bite and kick the officers.
One of the officers then shot Wood with a Taser, but the current apparently ignited some of the leftover chemicals from the can of keyboard cleaner.
