A single-payer health insurance system...

...would remove health insurance from corporate rule and put it directly accountable to Democracy.

People seem to confuse, and equate, the monetary system known as capitalism with the governmental system known as Democracy.

Wouldn't it be better to have a health system we could vote on?
A system where if we are not happy with our Representatives we could vote them out?

Repubs and those against a public plan seem to be favoring corporate rule, of which we have little control if any.

1. As my current sig line says...
Pick your bureaucrat. I'm for the one not getting rich of his decisions, the one we can vote out.

Maybe. Maybe not.

If we have such a system, Congress gets to write the rules for it. When the subject comes up of what to exclude coverage for, you can bet that medical marijuana and sex-reassignment surgeries won't be covered. And if you think the current healthcare debate is uncivil, wait until they take up the question of covering abortion.

I'm still in favor of single payer, but I'm aware there would be some bumps in the road with it, too.

The VA. And it works fairly well. If you have a problem that you can't resolve through the VA, you can write your Congress critter. If she/he is NOT a Republicon, your critter will respond with some help or information.

If that doesn't work and the problem is very serious, you can go to the media, or just threaten to, then your Congress Critter will pay attention and help you.

Can you do the same thing with an insurance corporation?
