A message to the Taxophobes
"Oh we have it SOOOOO bad here in the USA. They tax us so much!" you whine like petulant children.

Yes, about 30-40% of your paycheck goes to taxes. Sound bad? Try living somewhere else.

Like the UK: Over there you do not hire a tax preparer. The government does not trust you like ours does to pay the right amount. Here, you just need fill out a form saying how much you made, include the statements and deductions. In the UK, you see a Tax official who TELLS YOU how much to pay. And its not always based on income - it can be based on how much your profession is supposed to make, rather than the amount you already did make. There is no Tax Accountant you can go to to pay less taxes, or find loopholes. If you are really rich, you can hire a Tax lawyer - but the deck is still stacked against you.

Try Canada: Sure, they trust you a little more, but consider your measly 30-40% goes up to a much higher 60-70% in taxes.

In the US we pay the least taxes for an industrialized nation of its size. Yet we still whine like little babies, thinking that the 30% we pay in taxes is really OURS! Well, it isn't. When you drove to work, to make your money, you drove on government roads. Government police protected you from getting mugged, carjacked, etc. They also made sure the house you bought was safe, and the banks you put your money into solvent. So in the end, that 30% is not yours, its the government's. You already used the services, now time to pay up.

1. Amen! It's like they went into a restaurant, ordered up a meal and ate it, then flipped out when the
waitress brought them the bill. How dare she?!

3. I have a really warped perspective
I'm a military retiree, my first of the month check and my medical care is provided by the taxpayers and I am extremely grateful. Oh and how I love my socialistic, communistic medical care. I don't mind paying taxes at all, because I know what I get for my money, but I'm just a dumbass looney liberal, what do I know.

4. And for those who claim the police aren't there to prevent crime,
try taking all the cops OFF the street and see what happens. They may not be right where the crime is at any particular time, but their very presence and existance hold down crime - and the taxes we pay make that possible.

5. Huh?
And its not always based on income - it can be based on how much your profession is supposed to make, rather than the amount you already did make.

Not sure what you're talking about. For national income taxes they have tax bands just like the US. It's 20% up to £37,000 and 40% above that, though I think there's supposed to be a new 50% band being implemented for incomes substantially higher (around £140k or £150k, as I recall.)

8. Tax rates should go back to pre Trickle Down levels... I Want My Country Back
Reaganomics failed, but we still have the top tax rates far lower than they were back when our economy was strong.

It's bullshit and nobody talks about it.

We don't need to compare ourselves with Canada, just compare our tax laws now that we have an endless deficit and unsustainable debt with our tax laws when our economy worked properly
