Disabled Woman Drops Lawsuit Against Squeeze Inn
News10 Exclusive: Disabled Woman Drops Lawsuit Against Squeeze Inn

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento woman who sued the tiny Squeeze Inn hamburger restaurant over its lack of wheelchair access has dropped her lawsuit.

Kimberly Block, 41, filed a civil rights complaint July 6 against the Squeeze Inn under the Americans with Disabilities Act. In the lawsuit, Block claimed she suffered "embarrassment and humiliation" when she tried to eat there last November.

The appropriately-named Squeeze Inn is famous for its messy cheeseburgers and cramped quarters. The restaurant offers fewer than a dozen stools and no wheelchair ramp. The "Squeeze" attracted nationwide attention after being featured on the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives."

The lawsuit generated outrage among loyal patrons and led owner Travis Hausauer to announce he would move to a larger building.

A one-page notice filed with the U.S. District Court in Sacramento this week announced the action against the Squeeze Inn had been "dismissed by the plaintiff in its entirety." There was no explanation offered.

3. What IS that, deep-fried space alien on a bun?
That looks like an overcooked version of the creature that kept attaching itself to the faces of the expendable crew members in that old STAR TREK episode.

But if the top bun is taken off, I might be tempted to wipe my feet on it.

11. Could be...
Here's their menu:
http://www.thesqueezeinn.com/sacramentomenu/

Could be this item:

"Squeeze with Cheese" (Recommended).....$5.80
The same as our famous Squeeze Burger but with a "skirt" of bubbling cheese.

2. Gee, it couldn't possibly be because, with the owner moving to a larger building
which probably WILL be handicap accessible, that the woman feels she achieved her objectives, could it?

:sarcasm:

It couldn't possibly be that the MSM can't handle a lawsuit story that isn't just about somebody wanting to score a big check could it?

:sarcasm: :eyes:

Nah, it couldn't be ANY of that....

5. No. it isn't about any of those things...
This plaintiff is one of many sockpuppets used by ambulance chasing, serial ADA-suing attorneys in the area. Her name has been on more than one lawsuit filed by http://www.news10.net/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=63116">this scumbag...

Singleton, who has filed roughly 350 Americans with Disabilities Act lawsuits in federal courts in California, said he always warns the offending businesses before suing them. He said Squeeze Inn owner Travis Hausauer was given written notice offering him an opportunity to make ADA-required improvements before Singleton filed suit in Sacramento last Monday.

Singleton pointed out business owners have had since 1990 to come into compliance with the ADA and have tax credits available to them to do so.

"Given this amount of time, the tax credits, and getting a letter prior to suit, the businesses not removing barriers are scofflaws, not victims," he wrote. "The Squeeze Inn is not just excluding Ms. Block, but everyone who is disabled."

Singleston responded to allegations that he sues business owners just for the money.

"If a defendant effects the repairs, or agrees to, the suit is moot and dismissed. Plaintiff does not collect damages or attorney fees in federal court in that event," he wrote.

But that explanation doesn't tell the whole story: Singleton collects thousands by avoiding trial and settling outside of court, as he did recently with the Market Basket supermarket in Sacramento's Del Paso Heights.

9. "Reasonable" accomodations are required
i think that's the rub.

so i don't think there's ever going to be an elevator all the way to the crown of the Statue of Liberty.
