Okay, after the OFA Natl Health Care Forum, what do YOU think?
Personally, I knew my question was not going to be addressed, but I must admit that I'm a bit disappointed in that it resembled more of a rally, than an exchange of ideas.

I STILL hear too much "health care insurance reform" to trust where we're going with this, Mr. President!

I want to clap with everybody, but my cheer-leading days are over.

1. Not happy with "insurance reform", not happy with "firewall"
But I do love to listen to that man speak.

He said a lot of encouraging things.

3. "He said a lot of encouraging things"...
Yes, and some in particular should be separate forums. I'm talking about "Your family is fit, Mr. Prez, so what do you think we need to do to start changing our obesity rates?", or something like that...

That's when the STUNNING statistic compared how unhealthy we are (in the best health care system in the world, some say). I think Obama's follow up to that was that IF obesity rates stayed the way they were in the 80's we would be spending more than a trillion dollars less in health related costs TODAY.

That made a point, I suppose, eh?

17. Yes, it was a good point: we're unhealthy, and it costs us $$$.
I think the health insurance industry can lay claim to that statistic.

23. Why does it feel like pre-Kennedy years? Oh, I know...
Because it was president Kennedy who put forward the challenge to kids in school (I remember how everyone really got behind it)...

Obesity and lack of physical activity = lifestyle diseases, including:

Diabetes (most likely type II)
High blood pressure
Stroke
Orthopedic injuries
Obstructive sleep apnea

etc...

2. Still Hasn't Changed Stance on Public Option. There will be one, but it's no the only way to reform
He cited that reforms of private insurance are *also* necessary to keep them honest.

His words: "I haven't changed my position on a Public Option".

5. You must listen to politicians, even Obama, carefully.
From what I am hearing, the position hasn't changed.

He "would prefer" a public option.

That doesn't mean that he will veto a bill without one.

11. If that's true, then maybe that's why he didn't read the "hard ball" questions-
... because I'm sure that at least some of them said, "ARE YOU COMMITTED to a public option?"

I keep hearing everyone else wooping it up when "public option" is mentioned.

8. He clarified it a bit further...
Now I wonder if it's going to be left up to community organizers to drive that message "home"

The community organizers were the bulk of where all the questions were coming from. I wanted more hard ball questions about it.

4. We need heathcare reform -- AND insurance reform.
The only problem I have with the terminology used is this bit about "keeping them honest." They aren't honest. I think we're trying to MAKE them honest.

To me, the insurance industry is an organized crime protection outfit. They protect you only to a point -- the point at which they stop making money off of you.

9. Insurance itself was the bulk of much stand up comedy once upon a time...
... and we all know you can't MAKE any entity honest unless you truly make it compete like hell with a preferred and comprehensive health care product.

6. I really want to see more leadership from the president.
I dunno, maybe it's just my frustration that there is so much obstruction from the right, but I would like to see a little less "yes, we can" and a little more "git 'er done".

Kind of like the Nextel commercial, "what if film crews ran the world?"

15. I don't think you watched it
The theme that was on the screen was "Let's Get It Done."

Frankly, I think we need more leadership from people like us. Have you done anything (except post on this board)? I haven't done nearly enough, except call my Congressman and talk to his legislative aide for 10 minutes, boycott Whole Foods (with letters), signed the OFA pledge. I haven't met anyone who is against this, so it's hard to convince anyone. And I've looked for activities in my area, but there hasn't been much.

We are the ones we are waiting for.

19. I did watch it, and I don't know what more I can do short of shooting republicans
I've written and called my rep, my senators, the president, carried a sign at the townhall, and I already don't shop at Whole Foods.

Did you even submit a question for today's forum? I did.

Hell, I decided a little more than a year ago to run for local office (won, too) while calling and writing and writing and calling.

16. I think you'll see that leadership when we get to that point. Right now, we're so far away from a
final vote, there's very little Obama can do. We only have 4 out of 5 draft bills. There isn't a bill yet to be voted on.

7. I feel like a ping pong ball....I think that he addressed many issues and danced around a little...

in terms of the Dems going it alone if need be. It's great to hear that he still supports a robust public option. He needs to speak like this at all his press conferences / town halls. Sometimes he misses the low hanging fruit or provides an overcomplicated answer.

I have been skeptical. I have been angry....fired up...yelling at tv screens. I've called my representatives. I have called the White House.

Now I am ready to hit the pavement again and push for this reform.

12. The constant theme with Obama
Having worked for the man, I've noticed his constant theme of being cautious. The fact that it took him this long to signal he'd take the gloves off if need be isn't surprising. I just hope he follows through and makes a real fight of health reform.

Your website tells me how committed to reform you are.

What is he waiting for? I mean, really. The gloves should have come off a little while ago, yes?

20. Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention
but I was not entirely pleased with his response to the question about how to pay for it. For one thing, he used the fact that we're spending billions in Iraq and Afghanistan to "give some perspective." Okay, but he's not proposing we stop that nonsense. So where, really, is the money going to come from? Cut waste, okay, I get that.

I hope there's a transcript so I can read his remarks. I hope I just missed the more concrete part of his answer, because that is a question that needs to be addressed so the teabagger townhowlers don't have that point to make any more.

21. Good point...
I got the idea that all of us watching at home (internets) should join the community organizers to send out that message. Very grass roots, but not enough to address the sloped of brow and dragger of knuckles out there screaming away and taking one page ads out in the newspaper to do as much to destroy the health care reform plan and the health care reform planners.
