Bolt Crushes His Own 200-Meter Record

Look at how far out front he is!!!!

BERLIN — Usain Bolt clearly does not require the intensity of a close race to obliterate his own world records.

After being pushed close to the finish line in the 100 on Sunday by Tyson Gay as Bolt won in a record-setting 9.58 seconds, Bolt had to do the pushing himself in the final straightaway of the 200 on Thursday. Running alone — strikingly alone — in lane 5 in the final straightaway, he showed no interest in cruising to the finish. Instead, he sprinted through, and the result was a time of 19.19 seconds: 11-hundredths of a second faster than the world record he established a year ago at the Beijing Olympics.

It has been a remarkably productive, efficient performance for Usain Bolt at these world championships. He has raced two finals and broken two of his own world records, with the 4x100 relay still to come. And he has now matched his sprint double at last year’s Olympics with another, even faster double on the blue track here.

1. Amazing. When do the doping questions start?
And no, I don't believe he's doping.

4. Anyone checking to see if he might be a woman?

6. Why would they do that?
That's absurd to suggest, considering that the record pretty clearly shows that being a woman does not provide an advantage in track and field events.

9. Check yesterday's lead track and field story from Berlin.
(Guess I should have indicated sarcasm.)

11. Yeah, guess I'm a little punchy after that.
I spent way too much time yesterday arguing with people who actually thought that gender-testing Bolt was a fair and sensible way to handle the Caster Semenya controversy.

7. Here's the really scary thing about this:
In both of his record-setting runs, in Beijing and Berlin, Bolt was running into a slight headwind.

8. Just look at all of the runners
and it is obvious that Bolt has the best overall running shape and legs.

10. Usain Bolt...
...is a sprint God. He is Mercury in human form.

People do not realize what this man is doing.

"After being pushed close to the finish line in the 100 on Sunday by Tyson Gay as Bolt won in a record-setting 9.58 seconds,"

Tyson Gay is blindingly fast. He ran the third fastest 100 meters in history. Bolt beat him by .13 seconds! That is an eternity in a race often decided in hundredths of a second!

This is a more dominant performance than even Michael Phelps. The other runners are not even in the same camera frame.

This is a truly astonishing athletic achievement.

Congratulations to the fastest human of all time and to the country to nurtured his talent.
