Please help smack down this freeper asshole. TOP 10 FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT OBAMACARE
Some assnugget posted this in another forum and it would be great to see it shot out of the sky by some of DU's snarkier wordsmiths.

About “Obamacare”

1. Those with existing insurance coverage will pay more for their future insurance coverage under the ObamaCare

2. Those with no insurance will be paying the same amount as before, nothing.

3. Illegal aliens who were not covered before will be covered by “El Obamacaro.”

4. Your doctor, who is easily accessible to you now, will be difficult to see in the future because of the 46,000,000 new patients with government insurance ahead of you in the waiting room.

5. You might be told to have a seat in the waiting room even though the compound fracture of your hip make sitting in the waiting room chair a little difficult.

7. If you love the “turtlebahn” and boat launches in 800 billion dollar Stimulus bill, you will love Obamacare.

8. Additional jobs will be created for bouncers to control the mobs demanding to be seen next in your doctor’s waiting room

9. If you like standing in line at the post office, you will love standing in line at the doctor’s office

10. If you think that a new 1000 page bill that has not been read by a single congressman that proposes a new trillion dollar government Obamacare program that insures 46,000,000 new patients including 10,000,000 illegal aliens, that cannot afford insurance now and must be paid for by some one else…….will not affect you- who is already having trouble paying for your own insurance, let alone pay for additional coverage for others…………will not affect you; then you might need to see a Obamchiatrist.

Thanks for your help.

8. Better to ignore. It is impossible to reason with a freeper - they do not have the mental capacity.
You will only frustrate yourself.

You cannot change their minds because they have none.

If you must respond, just make up the weirdest shit you can about healthcare - positive toward reform (all care will be FREE including medications; the number of physicians will increase, returning us to the days of house calls; etc.) and negative toward the insurance plans (they will mandate that everyone buy the "premium" tier of coverage; you will need to pay cash up front for everything and then convince the companies that they should reimburse you; etc.).

The more outrageous, the better.

Make them run around to counter your points.

14. The short answer: Prove it.
Where in any of the bills is there any language to support (for example), point number 3? Or, what part of the bill assigns all 46 million uninsured Americans to this person's doctor? If that's the case, why doesn't this person just switch doctors?

But let's take the matter of cost, since that seems to trouble these pinheads so much. How much "value" does paying an insurance company to deny coverage add to the whole health care package? What's the use of ignoring one's health maintenance until you're so sick that only heroic medical measures can restore a person to some semblance of health?

17. Ok: how about these comebacks?
Edited on Thu Aug-20-09 04:17 PM by Nikki Stone1
1. Those with existing insurance coverage will pay more for their future insurance coverage under the ObamaCare

Those with existing health insurance coverage will pay more for their future insurance anyway: insurance companies are raising rates once, twice, sometimes three times a year on policy holders. Ask anyone who pays their own insurance, like me. Also, insurance companies are currently lobbying the Senate to increase their profits by reducing the amount of the policy-holder premiums that must go to actual care. Check out Keith Olbermann on this topic:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677 (Casinos and Insurance companies.)

2. Those with no insurance will be paying the same amount as before, nothing.

Actually, a good single payer plan would have none of us paying insurance. However, that's not what Obama is offering here: he is offering a plan that will pool health insurance companies, pit them against one another, which will force them to lower rates for all of us. The public option would force the insurance industry to lower their profit margin significantly, which would result in huge savings for all of us. Right now, many of us (in states like California) are already paying for the uninsured through state-run insurance programs like MediCal. The savings that Obama's national plan can give me makes the money that I give to Medical through my taxes that much less painful.

3. Illegal aliens who were not covered before will be covered by “El Obamacaro.”

See Barney Frank's recent town hall meeting at which he read the bill to his constituents. The bill expressly EXCLUDES illegal immigrants.

4. Your doctor, who is easily accessible to you now, will be difficult to see in the future because of the 46,000,000 new patients with government insurance ahead of you in the waiting room.

My doctor is already difficult to see because my copays keep going up or, as in the case of my regular doctor, he opted out of the network of my insurer because they wanted to pay him less per hour than his staff gets paid. I have noticed that Medicare patients in my doctor's waiting room have the same amount of wait that I have: about 5-10 minutes. And, uh, Medicare is GOVERNMENT health care, single payer.

5. You might be told to have a seat in the waiting room even though the compound fracture of your hip make sitting in the waiting room chair a little difficult.

For many folks, this is the actual reality at EMERGENCY ROOMS, where the uninsured end up when they have accidents and fractures and the like. OR maybe, if you're really sick and homeless and living in LA, you'll get dumped on Skid Row. (Local scandal here in LA)

7. If you love the “turtlebahn” and boat launches in 800 billion dollar Stimulus bill, you will love Obamacare.

WTF?

8. Additional jobs will be created for bouncers to control the mobs demanding to be seen next in your doctor’s waiting room

See Number 4.

9. If you like standing in line at the post office, you will love standing in line at the doctor’s office

See Number 4.

I refer you again to Barney Frank who READ parts of the bill to his constituents (who hadn't actually read the bill at all).

The rest of the question indicates a need for educational reform, not health reform. :)

18. These are ASSERTIONS. NOT FACTS.
as·ser·tion (ə-sûr'shən)
n.
The act of asserting.
Something declared or stated positively, often with no support or attempt at proof.
as·ser'tion·al adj.

1. Those with existing insurance coverage will pay more for their future insurance coverage under the ObamaCare.

WHAT IS THE FREEPER'S BASIS?

The reality is that healthcare will be cheaper because the bill limit profit margins, provide for increased competition by actually offering people a third public alternative to either: a) accepting whatever your employer offers you or b) going and buying expensive individual insurance which almost no one can afford.

2. Those with no insurance will be paying the same amount as before, nothing.

AGAIN NO FACTUAL BASIS:

The reality is that everyone will be required to obtain insurance either through a private insurer or the public option - if they don't they'll have to pay a tax for refusing to get insurance so right now some people who can't afford insurance go to the emergency room for uncompensated care - they will have to have some kind of insurance that they pay for in the future or they will have to pay a penalty tax.

3. Illegal aliens who were not covered before will be covered by “El Obamacaro.”

AGAIN NO FACTUAL BASIS AND RACIST. A lot of aliens don't even speak Spanish and actually had better healthcare access in the country they left than here in America. We are rated 17th in the industrialized world.

4. Your doctor, who is easily accessible to you now, will be difficult to see in the future because of the 46,000,000 new patients with government insurance ahead of you in the waiting room.

AGAIN NO FACTUAL BASIS: Not every one is going to see the doctor all at the same time and right now for most Americans, seeing their doctor was never "easy" in the first place - insurance companies do their best to prevent that from happening because then they have to pay.

5. You might be told to have a seat in the waiting room even though the compound fracture of your hip make sitting in the waiting room chair a little difficult.

AGAIN FACT FREE: Ummm NO medical care in emergecny rooms is dispensed on the basis of triage principles - the only way you'd be waiting with a compound fracture of your hip is if someone else was being treated for a gunshot wound to the thorax or abdomen. If they need more doctors, that's what "on call" is for and why they make pagers and cell phones - if they need more treatment facilities that's why there's usually more than one hospital in town and why they have medevac helicopters.

7. If you love the “turtlebahn” and boat launches in 800 billion dollar Stimulus bill, you will love Obamacare.

Actually I DO love the interstate and experience few traffic jams where I live - we have more miles of limited access highways than any other industrialized nation and travelling in our country is much easier than in most other places. And YES I LOVE the stimulus bill - we need ANOTHER BIGGER ONE - it has stopped the Bush slide into oblivion and is turning things around.

8. Additional jobs will be created for bouncers to control the mobs demanding to be seen next in your doctor’s waiting room

FACT FREE NONSENSE: Ummm no bouncers are needed to keep right-wing whack jobs from bullying people in public meetings, not at health care clinics and the notion that there will suddenly be mobs of people wanting to see the doctor is NONSENSE and FEARMONGERING.

The truth is that health care reform will make doctors MORE accessible because they will be able to catch problems EARLY when they are EASIER and LESS TIME CONSUMING and LESS EXPENSIVE to treat. The doctors can thus be more efficient and effective and see more patients in less time.

The truth is that if we could actually GET single payer, doctors would spend much MORE time on patients and much LESS time arguing with insurance providers who refuse to pay what they promised to pay when they sold the patient insurance in the first place.

9. If you like standing in line at the post office, you will love standing in line at the doctor’s office

FACT FREE NONSENSE: I never stand in line at the post office and it does an amazing job of moving a piece of paper or package 3,000 miles across the country in a matter of days for 44 cents. If ONLY health care could BE as efficient as the post office.

ACTUAL LIE: I PERSONALLY KNOW CONGRESSMAN GRAYSON and I KNOW he has PERSONALLY read HR3200. He's not the only one either.

ACTUAL LIE: HR3200 DOES NOT COVER UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS.

FACT FREE NONSENSE: The reason health care is unaffordable now is because of insurance companies who have NO competition because they only sell semi-affordable plans to employers and ridiculously expensive plans to individuals.

The only plan choice you have is whatever your employer offers you - there IS no competitive capitalist market place to lower prices, just a series of walled off markets where insurance providers shoot fish in barrels.

The only way to force these insurance companies to start offering real affordable plans that actually cover something is to force them to compete against a public option plan.

As Barney Frank said the other day - there's no point in arguing with a dining room table and this guy is as dumb and uninformed as a bag of hammers.

21. If you look at my signature
you'll see the essence of what I believe: there is no person so smart that he cannot learn something from me (each of us a teacher) and no person so stupid that I cannot learn something from them (each of us a learner). This Freeper has taught us something, and I believe it's in #4.

That is the real fear that the Town Hollers have, that free government care is going to fill the waiting rooms of doctors' offices with people who just "walk it off" right now. It exposes an entitlement mentality among the well-to-do that keeps their waits short when going out for expensive diversions.

They resent having healthcare leave that list.

8 WAYS HEALTH INSURANCE REFORM PROVIDES SECURITY AND STABILITY TO ALL AMERICANS

1. Ends Discrimination for Pre-Existing Conditions: Insurance companies will be prohibited from refusing you coverage because of your medical history.

2. Ends Exorbitant Out-of-Pocket Expenses, Deductibles or Co-Pays: Insurance companies will have to abide by yearly caps on how much they can charge for out-of-pocket expenses.

3. Ends Cost-Sharing for Preventive Care: Insurance companies must fully cover, without charge, regular checkups and tests that help you prevent illness, such as mammograms or eye and foot exams for diabetics.

4. Ends Dropping of Coverage for Seriously Ill: Insurance companies will be prohibited from dropping or watering down insurance coverage for those who become seriously ill.

5. Ends Gender Discrimination: Insurance companies will be prohibited from charging you more because of your gender.

6. Ends Annual or Lifetime Caps on Coverage: Insurance companies will be prevented from placing annual or lifetime caps on the coverage you receive.

7. Extends Coverage for Young Adults: Children would continue to be eligible for family coverage through the age of 26.

8. Guarantees Insurance Renewal: Insurance companies will be required to renew any policy as long as the policyholder pays their premium in full. Insurance companies won't be allowed to refuse renewal because someone became sick.

8 COMMON MYTHS ABOUT HEALTH INSURANCE REFORM

1. It's a myth that reform will mean a "government takeover" of health care or lead to "rationing." To the contrary, reform will forbid many forms of rationing that are currently being used by insurance companies.

2. It's a myth that reform will bust the budget. To the contrary, the President has identified ways to pay for the vast majority of the up-front costs by cutting waste, fraud, and abuse within existing government health programs; ending big subsidies to insurance companies; and increasing efficiency with such steps as coordinating care and streamlining paperwork. In the long term, reform can help bring down costs that will otherwise lead to a fiscal crisis.

3. It's a malicious myth that reform would encourage or even require euthanasia for seniors. For seniors who want to consult with their family and physicians about end-of life decisions, reform will help to cover these voluntary, private consultations for those who want help with these personal and difficult family decisions.

4. It's a myth that health insurance reform will affect veterans' access to the care they get now. To the contrary, the President's budget significantly expands coverage under the VA, extending care to 500,000 more veterans who were previously excluded. The VA Healthcare system will continue to be available for all eligible veterans.

5. It's a myth that health insurance reform will hurt small businesses. To the contrary, reform will ease the burdens on small businesses, provide tax credits to help them pay for employee coverage and help level the playing field with big firms who pay much less to cover their employees on average.

6. It's myth that Health Insurance Reform would be financed by cutting Medicare benefits. To the contrary, reform will improve the long-term financial health of Medicare, ensure better coordination, eliminate waste and unnecessary subsidies to insurance companies, and help to close the Medicare "doughnut" hole to make prescription drugs more affordable for seniors.

7. It's myth that reform will force you out of your current insurance plan or force you to change doctors. To the contrary, reform will expand your choices, not eliminate them.

8. It is an absurd myth that government will be in charge of your bank accounts. Health insurance reform will simplify administration, making it easier and more convenient for you to pay bills in a method that you choose. Just like paying a phone bill or a utility bill, you can pay by traditional check, or by a direct electronic payment. And forms will be standardized so they will be easier to understand. The choice is up to you - and the same rules of privacy will apply as they do for all other electronic payments that people make.

8 REASONS WE NEED HEALTH INSURANCE REFORM NOW

1. Coverage Denied to Millions: A recent national survey estimated that 12.6 million non-elderly adults - 36 percent of those who tried to purchase health insurance directly from an insurance company in the individual insurance market - were in fact discriminated against because of a pre-existing condition in the previous three years or dropped from coverage when they became seriously ill.

Learn more:
http://tinyurl.com/mlmr8p

2. Less Care for More Costs: With each passing year, Americans are paying more for health care coverage. Employer-sponsored health insurance premiums have nearly doubled since 2000, a rate three times faster than wages. In 2008, the average premium for a family plan purchased through an employer was $12,680, nearly the annual earnings of a full-time minimum wage job. Americans pay more than ever for health insurance, but get less coverage.

3. Roadblocks to Care for Women: Women's reproductive health requires more regular contact with health care providers, including yearly pap smears, mammograms, and obstetric care. Women are also more likely to report fair or poor health than men (9.5% versus 9.0%). While rates of chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure are similar to men, women are twice as likely to suffer from headaches and are more likely to experience joint, back or neck pain. These chronic conditions often require regular and frequent treatment and follow-up care.

4. Hard Times in the Heartland: Throughout rural America, there are nearly 50 million people who face challenges in accessing health care. The past several decades have consistently shown higher rates of poverty, mortality, uninsurance, and limited access to a primary health care provider in rural areas. With the recent economic downturn, there is potential for an increase in many of the health disparities and access concerns that are already elevated in rural communities.

Learn more:
http://tinyurl.com/ltzpn9

5. Small Businesses Struggle to Provide Health Coverage: Nearly one-third of the uninsured - 13 million people - are employees of firms with less than 100 workers. From 2000 to 2007, the proportion of non-elderly Americans covered by employer-based health insurance fell from 66% to 61%. Much of this decline stems from small business. The percentage of small businesses offering coverage dropped from 68% to 59%, while large firms held stable at 99%. About a third of such workers in firms with fewer than 50 employees obtain insurance through a spouse.

Learn more:
http://tinyurl.com/m6oar4

6. The Tragedies are Personal: Half of all personal bankruptcies are at least partly the result of medical expenses. The typical elderly couple may have to save nearly $300,000 to pay for health costs not covered by Medicare alone.

Learn more:
http://tinyurl.com/lepyfh

7. Diminishing Access to Care: From 2000 to 2007, the proportion of non-elderly Americans covered by employer-based health insurance fell from 66% to 61%. An estimated 87 million people - one in every three Americans under the age of 65 - were uninsured at some point in 2007 and 2008. More than 80% of the uninsured are in working families.

Learn more:
http://tinyurl.com/nuwk9b

8. The Trends are Troubling: Without reform, health care costs will continue to skyrocket unabated, putting unbearable strain on families, businesses, and state and federal government budgets. Perhaps the most visible sign of the need for health care reform is the 46 million Americans currently without health insurance - projections suggest that this number will rise to about 72 million in 2040 in the absence of reform.

24. OK, point by point
1. Those with existing insurance coverage will pay more for their future insurance coverage under the ObamaCare

Why? Is there something in the bill that mandates higher premiums or even any premiums at all?

2. Those with no insurance will be paying the same amount as before, nothing.

So? Is it some great injury to you that some people get insurance who NEVER had it before?

3. Illegal aliens who were not covered before will be covered by “El Obamacaro.”

Wrong. Just plain wrong.

4. Your doctor, who is easily accessible to you now, will be difficult to see in the future because of the 46,000,000 new patients with government insurance ahead of you in the waiting room.

Are you admitting there's a severe DOCTOR SHORTAGE in AMERICA???

5. You might be told to have a seat in the waiting room even though the compound fracture of your hip make sitting in the waiting room chair a little difficult.

That scenario has never happened in a single-payer or publically funded system and I dare you to cite ONE example

7. If you love the “turtlebahn” and boat launches in 800 billion dollar Stimulus bill, you will love Obamacare.

WTF is a "turtlebahn"?

8. Additional jobs will be created for bouncers to control the mobs demanding to be seen next in your doctor’s waiting room

That may be true in the initial stages of a UNIVERSAL health care plan. The program will be SO popular, there MAY be jubilant mob issues. Normal law enforcement should be easily able to handle these.

9. If you like standing in line at the post office, you will love standing in line at the doctor’s office

I've NEVER had to stand in line at a doctors office or hospital. I've always had a comfortable seat and RARELY had to wait more than an hour - unless it was serious. Then I was admitted immediately.

Give me a break. At least TRY to make a cohesive argument, not a Sarah Palin word salad.
