ASSERTIONS vs. FACTS....
as·ser·tion (ə-sûr'shən) n.

The act of asserting.

Something declared or stated positively, often with no support or attempt at proof.

as·ser'tion·al adj.

Just like before the Iraq War on WMD's, terrorist links and other such nonsense we are being subjected to a non-stop flood of assertions on healthcare, some of them simple distortions, most of them bald faced lies in an attempt drown out the truth by forcing us to debunk the flood of bullsh*t.

We should start calling these liars "liar" and calling stupid people "stupid". I'm so proud of Barney Frank for the stinging smack down he gave that woman wing-nut at his town hall meeting who tried to tie him, a GAY JEWISH MAN and Barack Obama - a black man, to the Nazis and Adolph Hitler.

We need more people to stand up and call bullsh*t on the bullshitters.

1. You are quite right.
Will be in court next week, vs. 'husband' liar, and hope I can do whatever it takes to say the right thing!

2. There's a difference between an assertion and a lie
An assertion is just a claim offered which may or may not be true, but doesn't imply duplicitousness.

An outright lie is a willful intent to deceive.

That non-so-subtle difference is one that's conveniently ignored by Repugnants. For instance, Repugnants like Bill-O and Rove frequently point to assertions made by some Democrats that Iraq had WMD. However, those assertions were made in good faith and often supported by information that the Bush White House was handing them. However, the Bush White House was privy to information that cast doubt on those assertions, yet they continued to push them as they suppressed any evidence to the contrary. That is a lie.

3. I understand the difference between an assertion and a lie.
The problem is that the flood of assertions being made are being made willfully, maliciously and with a full knowledge of the true facts. It is a tried and true (if you'll pardon the pun) propaganda technique of the right which works on people who don't know the difference between an assertion and an actual fact.
