"Meet The Press" Draws Most Viewers Since April On Maddow's Debut Appearance
"Meet the Press" had its highest total viewer delivery since April this past Sunday, averaging 3,359,000 total viewers for David Gregory's most convincing victory in months.

ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" averaged 2,447,000 total viewers for a distant second place, while CBS' "Face the Nation" with Bob Schieffer averaged 2,470,000 total viewers and FOX's "FOX News Sunday" averaged 1,207,000 total viewers.

Sunday's "Meet the Press" featured Rachel Maddow's debut on the show; she appeared with former House Majority Leader Rep. Dick Armey (R-TX), Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) for an in-depth look at the health care debate.

"Meet the Press" hasn't seen an audience as large as Sunday's since April 19, when it featured Larry Summers and averaged 3,439,000 total viewers.

Perhaps more importantly, though, it hasn't had as decisive a victory over its chief competitors — ABC's "This Week," which recently topped it for the first time since 1999, and CBS' "Face the Nation" — since the spring.

Sunday's "Meet the Press" topped "This Week" by 37% (912,000 viewers), Gregory's strongest victory over Stephanopoulos since March 22; and it beat "Face the Nation" by 36% (889,000 viewers), Gregory's strongest victory over Schieffer since May 17.

6. We need to start a campaign for Rachel.
Gregory's numbers will tank again. she probably has a slight chance, but you never know.

2. I wanted to slap that smug expression off Armey's face, but Rachel was Awesome!!!
so I felt better.

Watch the video; Armey kept looking across to Coburn with a "can you believe this pinko dyke and her attitude?".

Fucker!

And he'd share his stupid ass home-spun stories like anyone cared, while Maddow had done her homework and wouldn't back off.

Damn, we need to have her there more often or, better still, make her HOST!!

:applause:

4. Yeah. They should fire David Gregory and give Rachel the whole damned show!
Meet the Press: Hosted by Rachel Maddow. Yeah, I like how that sounds.

Or This Week With Rachel Maddow.

Or Face The Nation with Rachel Maddow.

She's a hit with viewers.

And adored in our family.

13. And keep in mind this was August, at the trough of the "slow season."
Would it be too much to suggest that perhaps Maddow should be hostess of MTP? And to hell with what Sally Quinn and the rest of the village would say.

16. K& R. Rachel is very, very good at her job.
She would be very good at a lot other people's jobs too. I hope she shatters that good old boys club glass ceiling into toothpick sized splinters one day.

17. OK, while I agree that Rachel is awesome...
She is an unabashed, unapologetic liberal, and that's not how MTP works. MTP relies on a host that's seen as unbiased (or at least seen as biased by both the left and the right). There are many good places for Rachel, but I don't think MTP is one of them. She's much, much. much better suited to arguing the merits of a liberal point of view, and this is what I want her to continue doing. For her to have to pretend to be an objective moderator would be a waste.

However, you know what the high ratings for the show she was on mean to me? That America is a hell of a lot more liberal than our politicians have realized.

him instead of the camera and the audience.

Man, I hope she doesn't burn out. I read that she crams for her other show like a student preparing for finals -- from the small hours of the morning until she's on air.

24. hahha, this makes me think of the idiots posting about how Maddow was losing ratings
by comparing the numbers to the ones right before election day but of course they didn't say this.
