I'm bringing this in from DailyKos cause Du'ers need to see it if they haven't yet.

Update <2009-8-20 16:43:43 by hekebolos>: the New York Times has written about our public-option fundraiser!

They thought you would back down.

They thought that with enough of a goody-bag, and enough smaller concessions here and there, that you would be satisfied with their version of incrementalism. But the slough of anonymous advisers didn't understand how much you agree with the good Dr. Dean: without a public option, reform is meaningless.

(snip)

First--MoveOn.org has thrown down! They've sent an email to their list linking straight to the ActBlue

(Much more!)

2. We're going to win this one yet! Obama said when he won
the election that "I can't do this alone, you're going to have to help." Looks like he's going to get help.

4. It upsets me how many people forgot those very words he uttered many many times...
the fight had only just begun for us all and yet far too many simply bedded down when he won hoping he would take over...how naive...

3. It rewards progressives who take the pledge, but it's hard to punish the ones who don't
Take it from me: I spent quite a while the other week talking to the legislative aide for my Congressman (Danny Davis, IL 7). Rep. Davis is a member of the progressive caucus, but he did not and, according to his office, will not sign the pledge. The reasoning as they explained it to me was that he could not commit to not voting for a bill in the end. I get that: he doesn't want to throw the baby out with the bath water, even if he does strongly support a public plan. But I argued that we had to have leverage to counteract Blue Dog democrats from conservative districts, and that these kinds of threats are the only ammunition we have to retain a public option.

No amount of cajoling or implied threats for future non-support seemed to have an impact. Let's be frank: Danny Davis has this seat for life. In the end, he knows he'd suffer more if he actually voted against a final health care bill. They thanked me a lot for being knowledgeable about the reform bills, and for caring. But he wasn't going to sign the damned letter.

So I have no one to contribute to on Act Blue. But I also don't have a way of punishing my own (progressive, though problematic) Congressman. Will he change his mind when he sees his buddies getting money? I doubt it. This is Chicago, where the money comes from the machine, and the districts are tightly drawn.

I would go to his "State of the 7th District" meeting on Saturday, but, alas, I have an appointment with my endodontist ... for which my crappy dental insurance will pay nothing.

5. "So I have no one to contribute to on Act Blue."
So pick someone who needs the help.

My so called Rep is useless, so I gave to Jim McDermott(WA). And I gave to all of the TX Progressive Democrats because I lived in TX for a number of years and being a Democrat in TX is hard enough without standing up as a Progressive Democrat. If they're willing to do it, I'm willing to back them up.
