Cutting through the middle: Anybody feel like me re: Imus?
You were outraged when you first heard about this and thought that he should probably be fired, not just from MSNBC but from CBS for his actual radio show altogether? You thought that initially, but as you've been on DU and turned on the TV and can NOT escape from this story wherever you go like it is the biggest news story of the year....you've been incredibly turned off from the whole ordeal? Like you are already ready to start flinging things at your TV because people will not stop talking about, while other things (e-mail scandal, new stem cell discoveries, explosions all throughout the Green Zone) fall by the wayside?

If you are so mad that even this thread's existence is annoying, I apologize. Just use the Ignore function! :)

1. I think what he said should have been noted, fired is fine, he did say a horrible
thing. But, with all the crap Rush, Beck, etc... get away with saying, I'm wondering why the media do not pound on those others who say as bad or worse things.

3. If the media do not call Beck, Limbaugh,
O'Reilly, on this they are hypocrites. The only reason Imus was cancelled was because of the advertisers leaving him. It is the money--nothing else.

2. oh man, do I agree with you. I'm sick of this.
And it's actually starting to make me feel sympathetic towards Imus, whom I've never even listened to.
If we'd devote a fraction of the energy to end hate speech against Muslims, we'd realize that there are victims who are in far worse straits than high achieving women basketball players.

4. It's. All. Theater.
And Imus is in on it. This is all hoopla so that the networks et al do not have time to report on the real stories. Now that we know Who The Baby's Real Father Is, that story is winding down, and they needed a next act for the circus. This is it.

5. I agree as well
They will play it to DEATH now and it is annoying, which is why I am avoiding it. And as usual the politicians have to weigh in to fish for votes. The media turns everything into a sideshow in this country and the willing populace eats it up every time. Now if the American people and politicians were talking about impeaching Bush and his criminal cabal with as much outrage I might not think this is all just devolved intop a PR stunt. Afterall, Bush's behavior after Hurricane Katrina is now forgotten and after all he has done to show his true contempt for the people of this country he hasn't been fired. Not to say what Imus said was right, but it is the hypocrisy of those who are outraged that intrigues me.

6. Information overload
Nobody can keep up with every single thing that happens every single day. Throw in every possible variable to the each event, and it gets worse. Then you throw in everyone who has an opinion of each event, then a bunch of other people with their opinions on the opinions of each variable, and it doesn't stop. You can never take a break, since something happens every day, and if you don't keep up, you're ignorant of this and that. That's when you're told you're ignorant, which just gets you all hot and bothered about that new variable on the events of the day. Plus you have to feed the kids, you have to earn some money, spend some money so the economy can survive, save some money for you and your kid, pay your taxes, get back to work, feed the kid again, follow the new news about what happened today, but also the new news about what happened yesterday. All that is then put into context with new information coming out about something that happened 10 years ago. Then you have to feed the kid again. Then it's time to listen to the experts, whom you've never met, tell you why this and that happened. They could be funded by some group that doesn't have your interests at heart, but you have to go earn some money again so you can pay your bills. Then something else happens 4,000 miles away, and it's important to your life in an abstract way. Then you lose your job because of something else that happened, and then you're stuck with having to go back to school, which leaves you less time to follow what you need to know. But if you don't know it, you're screwed.
