Obama Invokes FDR's Battle For Social Security
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/21/obama-invokes-fdrs-battle_n_264791.html

In his remarks at Organizing for America's National Health Care Forum on Thursday, President Obama invoked FDR's battle to pass Social Security, clearly comparing himself to his predecessor in terms of the challenges they faced and the vehemence of the opposition they encountered.

After asserting that the public option was "important," Obama sought to clear up some of the existing misinformation about "death panels" and the cost of reform. That prompted his discussion of his predecessor's legacy, along with JFK and Lyndon Johnson's push for Medicare:

Article has more.

If large corporations don't pay the workers that do the nitty gritty, which in turn brings their company to the forefront in terms of quality and reputation, then other entities need to step in.

Another idea is to terminate government subsidy to large corporations. Especially the ones who say "free market, yeah, yeah, yeah" yet receive even a penny in government subsidy. (And this was before the "bailouts".) This is why people are annoyed: Corporations say one thing about workers, but have a double standard for themselves -- despite "corporate personhood".

Reform is needed. And I stand with the President.

And Obama's competitor during the election freely used fear of jobs to try to get votes. That was why I didn't vote for McCain. ANY credibility they had was lost when they started intimidating voters as such. That is THE most disgusting attitude ANY politician can have. Americans are clearly tired of that form of childish behavior, and that's why they were not elected.

Like our President said, and I am highly appreciative that he had,

"So we cannot be intimidated by some of these scare tactics. We have to understand that there a lot of people who are invested in the status quo and make a lot of money out of it. We've got to also understand that people are understandably nervous and worried about any significant changes when it comes to something as important as health care, because it touches on your lives".
