Minneapolis pastor: Tornado was a warning to Lutherans on gay inclusion
It was only a matter of time before the religious right would chime in to announce that a tornado that hit parts of Minneapolis on Wednesday was a warning from God that the Lutherans should not relax doctrine related to homosexuality. "Jesus Christ," wrote John Piper, pastor at Minneapolis’ Bethlehem Baptist Church, "controls the wind, including all tornados."

On the church’s blog Piper spells out the Bible verses that prove the tornado was God’s warning to the Lutherans to reject a vote to "agree to disagree" on the issue of homosexuality.

The tornado in Minneapolis was a gentle but firm warning to the ELCA and all of us: Turn from the approval of sin. Turn from the promotion of behaviors that lead to destruction. Reaffirm the great Lutheran heritage of allegiance to the truth and authority of Scripture. Turn back from distorting the grace of God into sensuality. Rejoice in the pardon of the cross of Christ and its power to transform left and right wing sinners.

2. Actually, his soothsayer capacitors seem to be on the fritz. The tornado was an omen, alright.
... an omen that cranked up, self serving fake Christians who justify their hate through a belief in Jeebus are doomed.

4. Or perhaps ...
I tend to think that the tornado was a warning to Minnesota not to keep treating gay citizens as second class citizens by denying the right to marriage. Since Iowa legalized marriage we have not had any devastating tornados.

Actually it likely has more to do with a cold front coming through in the heat of August, but whatev.

7. So, what natural disaster came to smite my fair city in 2003, when Bishop Gene Robinson
was the first openly gay man to be affirmed as Bishop by the Episcopalian church in 2003? *crickets* Nothing? I think this fool should keep his nose out of the ELCA business and wipe the froth from his mouth.

8. Just because the tornado was straight-acting...
doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't gay, itself.

9. Ah, John Piper...
he's a very strict, literalistic Calvinist. Predestinarian to the core. His god must love trashing trailer parks and leveling towns like Barneveld, WI for shits and giggles.

I used to fall for that kind of Calvinistic blather. Now it looks like screaming, burning stupid. Probably because it's screaming, burning stupid.
