Does DeLay's Angry Quadriplegic Town Hall Protesters Tale Add Up?
By Justin Elliott - August 20, 2009, 4:25PM
Last night on Hardball, Chris Matthews asked an exuberant Tom DeLay about the Tea Party/Birther agitation bubbling up around the country.

DeLay gave this response, which piqued our interest:

Chris, you shouldn't be surprised about this. This has been going on forever. When I did my town hall meetings, I'll never forget one back in the '80s -- on health care, by the way. They brought in quadriplegics on gurneys and dumped them on the floor in front of my podium. I mean, this is not new. What's new is, the people that came into disrupt my town meetings, we just let them go on because it usually turned off the people that were there. What's happening here is the American people are on their side.

Wild stuff. Sounds like the town hall protest of the decade -- but did it actually happen?

1. i don't know. i have never seen this before myself... granted, in the 80s
we didn't have youtube and instant video uploads of everything. but I would think there would be some evidence of this via news reports or something like that.

2. Tom Delay is a drunkard
Ten to one says he admits to drinking when the shit that hit the fan in that interview really starts stinking things up wherever he goes.

3. "exuberant" is a polite way to put it
DeLay seemed to be schlossed. He was unable pronounce some words and he called for Matthews to check Obama's "gift" (meant birth) certificate.
The bigger issue is why are people like DeLay still on the soapbox?

9. Because the M$M is controlled by right-wing reactionaries.
It's been that way for decades.

5. Oh, I'm sure if you asked him, he could tell you exactly who the people on the gurneys were.
And even produce their gift certificates.

6. He's pig shit....I had to put the TV on "mute" and walk out of the room.....

....when DeLay appeared on Hardball.

WHY that lying, sanctimonious, self-satisfied piece of pig shit gets ANY airtime is beyond me. He was my Congressman once, and my most fervent desire is that he spend some time in prison for the way he engineered the destruction of the American political system.

7. There were town hall meetings in the 80s?
I don't think so. Aren't town hall meetings a recent phenomena? I don't even recall them before Bush.
