Hey Stretch,

Keep your laws off my BODY!
***********************************

Of course, that only applies to anything other than choice.

For my fellow masochists: Do you notice they never post anything ever that might prove that we Dem's are right about a lot of shit that goes down. For example, accusations made by Tom Ridge about using terror to get the inadequate one elected. It's bizzaro land over there.

Here we trash and beat our own no matter what. Refreshing.

1. The Freepers...
Edited on Fri Aug-21-09 10:09 AM by CoffeeCat
...are loyal to their conservative politicians--no matter what.

They will defend ANY unConstitutional behavior, and large amounts of stupidity and
insanity. They remain loyal to conservative politicians no matter what.

If conservative talk radio began a hate campaign against breastfeeding mothers--they
would all be against breastfeeding mothers and they would be spouting the mandated talking
points like robots. Then, they would protest and make anti-breastfeeding signs.

They don't think. They are parrots who repeat the talking points.

On DU, we argue more--and we disagree--because we are not blindly following a party or
specific politicians. We are progressives committed to principals.

That's the difference.

I'd rather have disagreements--rather be a bunch of bamboozled, duped and brainwashed
lemmings.

5. They display the authoritarian follower mindset. Read John Dean's book
"Conservatives Without Conscience." You will understand their mental health issues better.

4. Whenever I read their board, I am amazed at how short the posts are and how little
substance they contain.

Their posts consist of tiny sound-bites and there is very little give and take discussions or actual wrestling with the complexity of any given issue. It leaves the intellect very hungry.

DUers, however, keep me on my toes and constantly challenge my assumptions and beliefs.

6. Agree, and they never ever
post anything that hasn't been spouted by rush or Faux News. They act as if they'd turn to stone if they would open their minds and listen to a civil exchange of ideas during let's say a Bill Moyers program.

7. A little good debate is good for the mind and soul
Or even some bad debate.... :7

but anyway, yeah, I agree with you.

It's really rare when I see any sort of intellectual challenging going on over there. When some brave Freeper (I'm assuming it's a Freeper and not a DUer working undercover) dares to question the status quo, what usually happens is that s/he is ignored.

God forbid they would actually question one of "themselves". The person expressing the different opinion is just sort of ignored like crazy Uncle Bub who spends lot of time locked up by himself in the attic, feeding squirrels. No intellect-challenging discussions...no questions...nothing but "yep", "yep", "you're right", "yep", etc., etc.

We do a lot of debating and arguing here, and I think that's as it should be. Otherwise, what's the point of a "discussion" board?

:)

12. Personally speaking
I've learned so much from DU. Took 2000 for the scales to fall from my eyes. I was a real rooten tootin believer in all the bullshit that the US was perfect.

I remember making a red/white/blue quilt in honor of our Bi-Centennial. It's sad now, I've lost that feeling. Don't jump on me, but, all that red/white/blue flag waving makes me a little nauseous.

16. I had much the same thoughts as soon as the Bush crazies
started waving their damned flags all over the place, calling anybody who didn't agree with them "unpatriotic"...or just downright "traitors".

In fact, I got disgusted with the flag wavers that I can't stand to see it no matter who's doing it. It just gives me the creeps. Sad...

18. Thanks for your honesty
I haven't told anyone except my husband how disgusted I feel. He feels the same but, we don't talk about it to others. It's so damn weird!

8. I gotta a Dumb question...
Edited on Fri Aug-21-09 10:45 AM by PJPhreak
We all know that it does cost a bit o cash to run and maintain a large website, like this one or FR. I was spying on the enemy (FR) and noticed that they are doing their Q3 fund drive.
Jimboy has set a goal of $80,000 for the Q3 and at this moment he has raised over 66 Thousand bucks.

$80,000 a Quarter.

$320,000 a Year.

Now my dumb Question....Does it really cost that much to run FR? Or is Jimboy also making quite a Phat living off those Freeps??

9. I suspect it takes more than that.
At the very least, I suspect JimRob is not making much money at that rate.

FR is (for the moment) still a little busier than DU. He's eating a lot of bandwidth (though, admittedly, we have cool graphics and an excellent interface, so we eat more per page view than he does).

Plus, he often doesn't make his fund drive quotas. He gets less money than he asks for. DU almost always (with only one exception, afaik) meets its drive quotas.

I know nada about the costs of running a website....that just sounded like a lot of cash, and tho I can't stand Freepers,I also don't wanna accuse JimRob of "Living off FR" without a bit of knowledge on the subject. Unlike "Those Other Guys" Thanks again!

11. Busier than DU?
Wow, doesn't look like it from the posts but, then again I'm so clueless about computers, bandwith, etc.

I think DU's format, style and ease of use is so cool. FR just looks so... uh old and weary.

Thanks Skinner, EarlG, and Elad. :grouphug:

13. It is a little busier. Supposedly, it's much faster too.
This is a cool website for finding out such information.

17. Fun Freeper quote:
"Between all the terms they coin to avoid calling things by the common names/descriptors, they fool only their voterbase (which is the great un-washed, minorities, and criminals)."

Wow, they must have been really mad at the Bushies, with all their Orwellian naming of programs.

So,hmmm...I can't decide if I'm great and un-washed, a minority, or a criminal.

19. Every now and then a reasonable Freeper says something sensible and
they get banned, so you really will never see much there that isn't in lockstep with the administrator of the website.

20. Any talk about Orly Taitz over there?
I believe she has flown the coop and can only suspect a few freepers might feel betrayed.
