1. Amazing TV.
He should win an award for that. Granted, it wasn't the most scintillating conversation, but it was tremendously important. Here is the nutcase who cooked up the highly useful "death panel" propaganda, and Stewart showed just what a disorganized, ideological nut she is.

:applause:

Unfortunately, because of its modesty, this key unraveling of the death panel bs might not be recognized for what it is.

2. He did not let her get away with her baseless claims despite holding a lot of paper
She tried to intimidate with her attempt to look authoritative, dragging out that heavy notebook. He was not impressed and did not let her get away with anything.

MUST SEE TV! He gave a workshop on how to deal with RW hacks trying to intimidate to stop questions on their bullshit claims and outright lies. Every DEM pol and all talk show hosts really working to get the facts should practice what Stewart taught last night.

5. His best tactic was simply to say, "Show me where it says that."
She could not.

3. She should disappear and hide in a hole for a few months
How stupid is this woman?
Man I laughed until tears were flowing last night. I was shaking with laughter.

In recent times we're really being exposed to a new level of ignorance parading as informed Rethug sources.

12. I was screaming at the t.v.- I woke up my wife...
she would find the page and start to interpret it and I was screaming "Just read the damn thing"

Then Jon ripped it out and said that she obviously didn't need it - that was great

4. Stewart and Letterman are the only honest interviewers out there
This insurance company shill should never have gone on that show. Stewart didn't let her get away with a thing.

Her pitch kept rising, she was starting to panic as she continued to recite her silly talking points in the face of evidence to the contrary.

These people are counting on the fact that most folks out there have no idea what words like "sustaining" mean.

6. Wow. She's offensive. Palin/Bachmann/Foxx offensive.
Edited on Fri Aug-21-09 11:43 AM by WorseBeforeBetter
I lost track of how many times she said "you're wrong." I can't stand that disingenuous PR veneer, and the way she was not looking at Jon and trying to suck up to the audience. They weren't having any part of it, as expected from a TDS crowd.

Kudos to Jon for acknowledging that he's wealthy and happy to pay more in taxes to give back to the country.

8. Ask Pataki why he got rid of her....
she was another case of being put on the GOP ticket, because, she looked appealing. As it turned out no one realy knew her before she became Lt Gov. doesn't that sound familar. I can tell you they couldn't wait to dump her.

10. That woman is not funny: she is evil.
Look at the damage she has done in scaring seniors, adding to the hatred of our government, and poisoning the health care debate. Yet she is clearly even more stupid than Palin. She just giggled her way out of her lies. I was a little disappointed that Stewart let her get away with it.

We have to demand to know how her ridiculous and evil claims ever got the media coverage they did.

And we have to ask the Republican party what the hell is wrong with them that they would even listen to her. Let alone repeat the garbage she spouts.

16. Or was made to quit. She was clearly unprepared for the interview last night.
Edited on Fri Aug-21-09 06:00 PM by Nikki Stone1
She lost the audience almost immediately, which meant that she didn't understand the show or its audience. She took several minutes to find a single page (which, as Jon suggested, could have been marked with a post-it note) and then didn't want to read the legislation itself, but wanted to "interpret" it. When Jon took the page away, it was a damning comment on the whole charade.

It was very clear that McCaughey greatly underestimated the intelligence of Jon's audience. Perhaps she is used to the uncritical, often uneducated audience that she can scare with a few words. She certainly wasn't prepared for an audience that thinks about issues and who understands that the Daily Show's humor serves to underscore the absurdity of the political process, not to escape it.
