This thread needs to be addressed in a meaningful way.

DU has the brightest minds in the USA and we need to get a 1,2,3 name for all of the Health Care Options....

1. I'd go with "AmeriCARE"
"SecureCARE" is okay, but it kind of sounds like supplemental insurance for seniors...

4. You mean like PATRIOT Act? Sorry, I know what you're trying
to do and I think it has merit. But any catchy name we come up with will be painted as "Orwellian" by the RW. Even though Orwellian names are a popular RW tactic, they are masters at projection.

I think we should work on educating people more than catchy names. Just my two cents.

8. First you have to have a plan and get people to listen and a good name helps
Framing is not exclusive of educating

9. Democrats have been trying to educate people
and it is way too much to digest IMO.

Of course all of us at DU have IQ's above 120 and we are able to digest the information : ) ...... but not "Joe Average."

How can the idea for the Health Care Options be simplified so that it motivates every American to at least understand what the options are about?

Thanks for your thoughts. :patriot:

7. How about "Medicare?"
It's already a good name; just sign everybody up, raise the top margin tax rate, tell the providers what will be paid, and that's that.

13. That name is already taken ~ the Options need a new name

The name would not have to be permanent now that I think about it.

For Example : It could be something like ....

Option 2 ~ AmeriCARE for ALL
or

Pick YOURCARE from your Provider

Just brain storming

17. There is no easy way for people to "connect" with it.
There is no one "plan" and the media is doing its best to confuse the issues..

and why the Republicans are happy, all they have to say is "NO" to all of it and they don't have to say why.

It is our job to help them understand why they need to be supportive.

I've talked to many citizens about the options and they still don't understand the difference in the Options. These are Democrats that want to support it and they say," It's way too much information for me."

At least I remember seeing TV ads for such in the past couple of years.

This will appeal to the GOP base. We need to use small, common words that they will recognize (preferably no silent letters so as not to confuse them).

20. Medicare is already sacred.
Even the right-wing teabaggers aren't willing to touch Medicare. They're accusing us of trying to destroy it. And, of course, the can't attack America.

AmeriCARE is the perfect name.

Now, personally, I hope Obama has the AmeriCARE Act of 2009 in his back pocket ... and all I hope it does is to open Medicare to ALL Americans and to all businesses that want their employees to participate. I hope no person is forced to buy in. In that sense, I hope it is a true "option" for all, with no mandate whatsoever.

My further hope is that Obama springs the bill on Congress on about Dec. 15 and rams it through very quickly. Ideally, Congress would pass it on Dec. 23 and give America a wonderful Christmas present.

Here's to hope. :toast:

30. That is really what it is but what @the Keep your Provider part

That part is critical to put in 1,2,3 language because so many people still think that they don't have a choice and they would.

Now I have a question -- I currently have BC/BS and Medicare.
One Dr's office told me that is too complicated and I should just go straight Medicare.

I called BC/BS and they said they pay 20% of my services and Medicare pays the rest.

I know the Dr's don't want to deal with the Billing issues but what is best for me?

31. American Health Service
By referring to it as an American Service, the name invokes that nationalism and sense of duty that people in this country are so proud of. By extension, making health a national service invokes a sense of national pride and duty in ensuring the health of US citizens.
