Got my first unemployment payment
Been unemployed for 6 weeks, wasn't eligible for the first 4 cause they paid out a month of accrued vacation, the next week was a "waiting week" and finally got a whopping ... $265 for last week! And that's $25 more than the states max thanks to the feds. Before the federal stimulus, the maximum unemployment you could get was $240/week - about $2000 above the federal poverty level for a single. Its about 19% of my former salary (the $265 brings it up to 21% of my former salary). Luckily we still have one secure income line coming in!

4. Complete with gold plated trim!
I use it to go pick up my welfare checks which I get by claiming other people's kids are mine.

2. You're lucky, mine is $121 every two weeks.
Just my mortgage is $900, can anyone live on $242 a month? Needless to say, I'm now in month-one of my 6 month forclosure process. Joy.

I'm trying to dispute it because they obviously calculated it wrong, but I have yet to find a human at the UI office that has the slightest clue who I need to talk to about it. Each time I call them I spend 4-6 hours on hold.

5. Colorado
It's head-shakingly horrible. Apparently their computer system hasn't been replaced since the 70's.

13. Oh no! I'm sorry to hear.

That is anger inducing  In WA I'm getting $219 a week, which along with my PT job has given me close to my regular wages as a cook.

Sounds like there should be more regulation of state unemployment on the fed level. I am aghast that there is such disparity between states(especially since most du'ers are better educated and employed than I).

7. you used to make $65,000 a year?
:wow:
If I had done that, I would have a lot of money saved up. My take home pay on my last check was $396.48 for two weeks and I had an extra seven hours last week. So $265 a week does not sound at all bad to me. It's $530 vs $396 (or less).

8. I was making $66,000
and considering my education and experience, I was underpaid (someone with my education and experience in the private sector would be making over $100,000. Along with my husband's pay I considered us to be upper class (lower upper class but certainly in the wealthy category). I have a lot of money saved up. The main reason I registered for unemployment was so that I'd be counted in the unemployment statistics.

10. In Tennessee, it's capped at $250 a week no matter how much
you earned working.

How sucky is that?

15. Ouch
I don't think it was so bad in AZ when the cost of living was a little better but its been getting more expensive here for a number of years. Last time I got laid off and collected unemployment was in NY which had (as I recall - this was 12 years ago) very good unemployment. Needless to say this was a shock. All I can say is thank goodness we're not relying on this.
