Why are people so stupid - Hurricane Bill, Rip Currents and Heavy Waves
Word is that several people have been plucked from the water at North Carolina beaches. Haven't people been warned to stay out of the water this weekend because of heavy waves and rip current associated with Hurricane Bill.

From Florida to Maine - keep your kids and yourselves out of the blasted water.

1. Doesn't that make for less stupid people in the world?

3. Let them find out for themselves. If photos, news reports, etc over
the long history of reporting these things haven't convinced them that their behavior is unwise, send them out as sacrifices to Neptune.

4. Because some warnings are ass-covering BS and some folks like to see what their limits are
This is a sign that warns people not to attempt to hike from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon to the Colorado River and back in one day. Obviously some people get in trouble while doing that. However, others do it with no problem.

I guess the challenge with the ocean situation is that by the time you figure out how dangerous it is, there's not much you can do about it.

I'm not sure how much "intellect" is involved. It's more the fact that a lot of people like to take chances that they shouldn't take, which is why Las Vegas exists.
