Do we need a Massive March For Public Option on Washingon, DC in October?
I think we do need a huge, 1 million person march on Washington, DC in support of health care reform and the public option.

The Senators that haven't been strong on the public option: Warner (VA), Pryor (AL), Baucus (MT), Conrad and Dorgan (ND), Klobuchar (MN) and the others need to be won over. They will not get much encouragement outside the beltway, and the loud, vocal minority disrupting the Town Halls and spreading nonsense like "death panels" are the only ones they are hearing.

We need a march, just like the MLK march years ago. It is that important.

1. It will take some of the larger organizations
MoveOn, etc., maybe even the Democrats to get behind it. If I knew it would happen, I would try to be there.

2. if i'm going to participate in a 'massive' march -- it won't be for a public option.
it'll be for nationalized healthcare.

10. if there will be puppets, stilt walkers, drummers, then NO NO NO
If there will be serious people dressed well and clean, then YES.

If it will be co-sponsored with Marxist organizations and whale savers, then NO.

If it will be focused on one cause, then YES.

If it will be modeled after the marches for Civil Rights, then YES.

If there will be face painting and a sweet smell in the air, then NO.

Learn, people, from the marches that actually have gotten results.

13. I agree...ONE CAUSE!
Let's not get out there and talk about so-and-so on death row, Palestinians, global warming, and be so inclusive our cause gets drowned out in a sea of cacophony. Those are all good causes, but we must focus like a laserbeam----HEALTHCARE REFORM.

15. demonstrations have been too easily ignored by middle America...
....because when they see the video clips or photos of face painters and bubble wands and papier mache whales they totally can discount the message.

Seriously.

If you want results, have people dress in their "Sunday best" or work clothes, be serious, respectful and purposeful and FOCUSED.

THAT would put the fear of Holy Moly into Washington.

17. Notice how the media provides non-stop coverage
to all the right wing demonstrations (ie: teabaggers, right-wing town hallers, etc), but always ignores the progressive ones.

Part of it probably has to do with how the right-wing always like to have smaller but much more numerous demonstrations that are sustained over a long period of time, weeks and months, as opposed to progressives who like to have just one massive demonstration that lasts just one or two days and is quickly forgotten. This approach seems to be much less effective than the former.

19. I agree
If we look like "middle America" (for one day at least) then we will be taken more seriously.

Also, I know the universal/single payer crowd will get mad at me, but even though I support a single payer system, it will never, ever, ever happen in America, or at least in the next 10 years or so. Maybe one day...small steps. I have found in my age that although you don't completely sell out your principles, one must embrace pragmatism from time to time.

14. No, we need a general strike.
No need for everyone to go to DC. Staying home not only saves money, but it also effects the economy and sends a clear message that we expect to be taken care of or all business stops. Making a dent in the bottom line is going to be the only way they pay attention. The only problem is that no one is going to stay home for a day. People just aren't willing to take the risks.

I envy the French.

21. Well....
...the Teabaggers will be marching in September, and the bills will still be in comittee. We need to stand apart, and put pressure on the voting.
