An Ode To Excrement In Broadcasting
Edited on Fri Aug-21-09 06:14 PM by omega minimo

An Ode To Excrement In Broadcasting

Rush, I remember when you started out and listeners to KFBK thought you were "funny." You made fun of Rio Linda because it was rural, lower class, diverse and easy pickins'. You had your little porcine eyes on the prize.

Somewhere along the line, unfortunately you and others started taking your schtick seriously. You sure have done a lot of damage since then. When you get caught in one of your outrageous lies, you fall back on the "just an entertainer" copout. Isn't that conVENient?

Along the way, you and your Reich Wing buddies have learned a lot about crowd control and media manipulation. Here's an example of the early days, when people told you to your face what they REALLY think of you.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNK4byQkn7w

I was sitting in a California Bureau of Auto Repair waiting room, already a sort of purgatory, where the radio was turned to your Excrement In Broadcasting. Up pulled a classic old Cadillac: out got a dude with a cowboy hat, Kelly green snakeskin cowboy boots, big belt buckle and a belt with his name stamped in the leather -- "Bubba."

I sat there in between Bubba and an older, conventional, middle class white man, while you were railing against the people rioting in Los Angeles after the Rodney King verdict.

You screeched: "They oughtta cut off all the welfare checks, that'll fix them........"

I said, out loud, "What about people on welfare who aren't rioting?" Why assume everyone rioting IS on welfare and assume all people on welfare are rioting? Shades of "they all look alike to me." Shades of sneering at Rio Linda. Once a bully...........

Bubba and Grandpa didn't answer me, but it was clear that you expected your audience -- even if it was a captive one -- to accept your nonsensical logic based on bigotry and hatred, even if it had nothing to do with reality.

Not only did I figure that out, I figured I could shut the radio off, since no one was attending the office. So I did.

Your professional ability to lie has increased enormously since then -- so much so that your own ears could not stand to listen to you any more.

50. Six lines of iambic pentameter.
Then, five more verses where the original end words repeat in rotating order.

Then, a couplet or sometimes three lines where you use all the end words.

And you need a lot of wine to make one. :)

24. Remember when media (sometimes) reported people speaking
up?

We fought hard to get air time and print; to get reporters to come to events and marches and protests; to get editorial boards to talk to us. Now we can't even get page 24, under the fold.

I remember when the heritage foundation was referred to as a "right wing think tank" instead of blithely calling them a political policy organization.

Oh yeah. I remember.

31. Sorry to hear that
If you have anextra hard drive or partition, try installing Ubuntu 9.04 (Linux), you might like it:
http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download
"After your download begins you'll be given additional instructions on how to create and use your Ubuntu CD."

Then you can upgrade it to include codecs for plying MP3s, etc.:
http://hacktolive.org/wiki/Ubuntu-restricted-extras_offline_installer

Or, try Super OS ( Ubuntu 9.04), which has all the codecs for playing MP3s and movies, etc., combined with the 9.04 version:
http://hacktolive.org/wiki/Super_OS

:)

Thanks for the links. Never even tried it, but after today I'll check anything out. The only good news was that the external hard drive with all the music on it escaped unscathed. That would have been suicide worthy, as trying to re-import 30 gigs of music would have been a nightmare. :scared:

38. Ubuntu (Linux) is free
I was in a similar situation, but Ubuntu saved my sanity and opened me to a whole new computing experience. It comes with Open Office, Firefox, TONS of free programs. and the desktop environment/GUI is totally customizable.

I have a floating 3-D cube that I can 'grab' and spin to multiple desktops. :D

Did I mention it is 100% free? :D

54. Yes
You can install it on the same disk as XP, for ex. First, you need to partition the drive, one for XP, and the other for Ubuntu, and one small partition for swap space (about the same size as your physical RAM, and I put it between the XP and Ubuntu partitions). First install Windows XP on one partition, then use the Ubuntu CD (or DVD if you use Super OS) to create the swap space and the ext4 formatted partition. You will use the manual format method, or the dual partition method. If you use the manual method (what I prefer), be sure to add the root symbol "/" for the Ubuntu boot block. If you have two drives, this is much better. I installed another 1 TB WD drive the other day and Ubuntu and XP work great from their separate disks. I use 'Boot Manager' in Ubuntu to load whichever start up disk I want. This can also be done in BIOS mode. If you have trouble with any of this, you can ask folks for help or read the FAQs at the Ubuntu forum:

Installation & Upgrades:
http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=333

Absolute Beginner Talk:
http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=73

I've never had to ask any questions because I have always found my answers in threads where someone else has asked the same thing and received help.

Not everything runs perfectly on my machine. I still have not been able to install an Nvidia driver that will allow me to use my twin monitor set up in double X mode. I have to use 'twin view', which is not utilizing the full potential of both monitors at the same time, but I can at least expand my desktop across two monitors. I did read, however, that ATI video cards have more problems regarding installing drivers.

If you like tweaking things, you will enjoy Ubuntu. Plus, there are a lot of retro 80s arcade, and other free games for Linux (I haven't tried any of the emulators yet). ;)

I spent all day yesterday working on this thing, plus it's still hot as Venus here, so I'm not messing with anything today. But this sounds cool.

I have an Nvidia card, but don't use dual monitors. Is that the only trouble it's causing you? If so that's no biggie as I'm just about due for a new video card (it's the weakest link in my gaming right now).

Thanks for all the info. I'll be investigating. :)

This is a new type of drive format that eliminates the need for defragmenting one's drive, for ex.

57. To the tune of "Puff, the Magic Dragon:"
Rush the big fat gas bag had his own show
Made a fortune preaching hate on right wing radio
Rush the big fat gas bag had his own show
Talking crap and hoping that the public would not know

Rush inspired millions, and Rush made a mint
Contradict him on the air and you will get the hint.
Liberals are evil, poor folks are a bane
If you liked Bill or Hillary, then you must be insane

Now Rush, he worshipped Reagan, and Bush 2 wasn't bad
Iraq was not won in a week, and that was very sad
But Rumsfeld was a hero, and God a neo-Con
While Rush was ranting in his mike to cheer the whole thing on, oh

Rush the big fat gas bag had his own show
Made a fortune preaching hate on right wing radio
Rush the big fat gas bag had his own show
Talking crap and hoping that the public would not know

Rush said wives are women. Himself, he's had three.
Values should all go to him, and not to family
He couldn't serve his country, no Rush had to pass.
He would have gone but for that zit located on his ass.

Now lies were never truthful, and pigs have no wings
Phony claims and made-up facts give way to saner things
One great day it happened. The folks tuned in no more.
And Rush found that the very rich can still be very poor, oh!

Rush the big fat gas bag had his own show
Made a fortune preaching hate on right wing radio
Rush the big fat gas bag had his own show
Talking crap and hoping that the public would not know

65. Had to check out the video, then. Good job!
I love the simple cadence, true to the song, underscoring Dittoheads dumbassity.

:yourock:

We haven't had any takers on the sestina upthread, if you're up for it. :spray:

66. I'm not aware of it. Tell me more. In the meantime......
Here are my/our other three videos (Home on the Range, our first one, dates from 2006)

Please keep in mind that the "12 debates" was done before the primaries were decided last year,
and that "Hittin' the Road" was done before Obama's inauguration.

70. Thanks! I hope to do so soon.
These videos are very much a group effort, with me doing the writing, mostly on station in Europe,
my music gang doing the recording in Georgia, and then me doing up a rough screenplay overseas, and
then our video guy (also in Georgia) doing the hard work putting the video together. We can only hope
that 1.) we get our message across, and 2.) that people get a laugh out of them.

Feel free to pass them around!
