On Jon's Stewart's show last night.. well, in the full version posted on The Daily Show Site
http://www.thedailyshow.com/The second part of the interview, at about 4:30 in she tries to explain her "plan" to Jon after he does the math on her 'plan" and does not get an answer where people get the other three thousand dollars. Before she starts with the letter from the doctor, etc.
She says "a full subsidy for any household making less than fifty thousand dollars a year". She then suggests that it is more generous than the house bill and I tend to agree. Jon interrupts here by asking if her only problem with the bill is that it will kill old people. I guess he was worried that nobody had laughed at her in almost 30 seconds, hut that is the point at which the topic changes.
I am kinda surprised that this got passed over so quickly.
A full subsidy for all households making less than 50 thousand dollars a year is a compromise I might be able to get behind. Assuming there are partial subsidies for households making more than the 50 K a year, until it phases out at a higher income level. Maybe 95K a year or so.
There would need to be cost controls in place so this does not just funnel tax money to insurance companies but I see some glimmer of hope in this concept. I would like to see this combined with the "market place for health care" that President Obama has suggested. That way you would go and spend your subsidy in the market place that is government regulated.
Yes, she is bat shit crazy, but even that nut job can see that people need help with affordable health care and out of all that insane ranting in the interview she did have one brief moment that made sense. Maybe that is why she had to resign today.
