When a senior White House adviser blames the left for bringing up the public option
that tells you how out of touch they are:

"I don't understand why the left of the left has decided that this is their Waterloo," said a senior White House adviser, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "We've gotten to this point where health care on the left is determined by the breadth of the public option. I don't understand how that has become the measure of whether what we achieve is health-care reform."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/18/AR2009081803655.html

Is there any wonder why people are confused by the messages coming from this administration on healthcare?

3. The article is a few days old, but as far as I know hasn't been disavowed by the
administration, which only leads me to believe that they really don't want a public option

2. Obviously that person hasn't read polls or doesn't have the wit

to interpret them.

When over 50% of people surveyed want a public option, that's not the far left.

It's the center.

Any pol who ignores that is going to be out of a job.

4. Of course it is not, and I agree, that senior advisor should be out of a job
unless, of course, they agree with what he said, then we have a much bigger problem

11. Exactly.
The polls certainly don't show that only "the left of the left" support a public plan.

Even some Republicans support it.

5. It is Day 4 of people freaking out about that quote from some anonymous adviser. I hope at some
point we can move forward instead of just continuing to be pissed. This so very productive. He has said he wants a public option repeatedly since then but people just want to focus on that.

6. It Is so unproductive of them to minimize the public option
After 8 years of watching many Democrats rubber stamp everything bush sent to them

and the mixed message coming out of some Democrats in Congress, and the administration, what do you expect?

It was only a week ago when Conrad, Siebellus, Gibbs and others not only downplayed a public option, but in some cases indicated it wasn't necessary, it is way overdue to get concerned

8. I do believe that message has been heard. I think we need to focus on Conrad and the Senators who
are getting in the way. The problem is getting it through the Senate.

We are in a holding pattern until September regarding actual legislation although I'm glad, according to "news reports", the WH and Congress are working on drafting legislation to get it through using Reconcilliation.

I am glad the blowback was powerful enough to make it very clear that a Public Option is necessary.

I see enough sharks circling between the Republicans and the Pundits that I don't want to assist them in adding more blood to the water.

Charlie Cook was on MSNBC this morning talking about how Obama didn't recognize how "traumatized" the country was from the economic collapse and how he should have just said - we are going to have to hold off on Health Care Reform and Cap & Trade. Blah, Blah, Blah. This will be the conventional wisdom talking point by next week.

At lease we know after listening to the OFA townhall on Thursday that Obama is aware of that TP and rejects it (obviously).

9. Some (or most) of Obama's advisers told him not to even try for HCR this year. He overruled them.
They don't all agree so just because one of them tells a reporter something, that doesn't mean it is what the President thinks.

10. Several polls out yesterday
Some major national polls reported yesterday show Obama's declining approval ratings are accelerated due to losing 11% among "the left of the left." Let's hope this is a wake up call to Rahm to quit insulting the base.

13. If you think Rahm is a rightie.
I think he needs a one way ticket back to Chicago.
