I met a health care hypocrite at a party last night.
He didn't seem to be a Fox watcher; perhaps CNN and headed to Fox eventually, complaining about Obama while saying he didn't like Bush either. At one point he was vehement about the need for tort reform. I told him that those states that have put in tort reform have seen no improvements in insurance rates but he wasn't having any of it. He then proceeded to tell me in great detail about the lawsuit he's pursuing against his mother"s doctors. He seemed to have something of a case, although nothing spectacular (except she died). He was the type who kept disparaging everyone else's intelligence and education as less than his own, all while keeping an eye on the ballgame on the big screen. If he thought that was going to be sexy to me, was he wrong! Fortunately, a newish friend came by and I started talking to him and the fool eventually drifted away.

2. I "got into it" with a friend's wife on facebook
We were pretty respectful, but, not to seem immodest, I set her up pretty nicely. Of course, she doesn't trust government to run health care and thought it should remain private, but then she mentioned part of her reasoning was because her dad is on medicare, and he can't find a good doctor, and it's going bankrupt. I asked her why her dad didn't get on a private health care plan, and she foolishly told the truth that none of them would take him. What followed was one of the best "gotchas" I've ever participated in. :)

8. i wonder, if instead of calling what we are working for "health care reform"
we called it "health care coverage or insurance reform" would the notion that government will be providing health care under the plans being considered vanish?
the medical professionals who are providing health care currently will be the ones providing care if there were to be reform.
so the issue is really insurance.
i know that those of us who think clearly already understand that the debate is about how we pay for care and how we cover all citizens, or not, and that this is what is meant by health care reform but many of the fearful seem to be confused about what exactly is being proposed.
i think if the progressives focused their arguments on this distinction they might calm some nerves.
who knows?
