U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal, a Republican candidate for governor of Georgia, has proposed changing the long-standing federal policy that automatically grants citizenship to any baby born on U.S. soil, a move opposed by immigrant rights advocates.

"Coming into the country for the express purpose of having a child in order to anchor that child and yourself is, in effect, gaming the system," Dane said.

Automatic citizenship is enshrined in the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which says: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside." That provision, ratified in 1868, was drafted with freed slaves in mind.

Deal and his supporters say the 14th Amendment wording was never meant to automatically give citizenship to babies born to illegal immigrants.

but since it is in the 14th amendment, it would require another amendment, and good luck with that since hispanic voters are seemingly too powerful to mess with, at least in the southwest.

A good friend is the head nurse at the hospital in Douglas Az., right near the border, and sees this a lot. Pregnant Mexican women cross over when their labor begins and have their children in the US.

Somebody in the INS needs to explain to him that "anchor babies" are a myth. When illegal immigrants have children here, all minor children are deported with them.

The only difference is that when those children grow up, they'll have dual citizenship and can choose to re enter the country they were born in.

I guess he just hates the idea that them damn furriners can have kids who are citizens, period.

10. That DA is MY REP!. I've said for years that the only reason
he keeps getting reelected is because he doesn't do anything. If you don't do anything, you don't piss anyone off so people recognize the name and vote for you just because they haven't heard anything bad about you.

IMO, he's a lazy AH living off the public dole.

12. He is reelected because he is an incumbent. Incumbents who
seek reelection are successful at a rate of over 90%. Even with congressional approval rating last year at one of the lowest on record, they were still successful at over 90%.

They know this, and they don't care. We know this, and reelect them anyway.
