If your pet could vote.
I think, generally, that cats would be Republicans while the doggies would be Democrats.

The reasons are obvious.

13. Why of course!
Dogs are gluttons- and very gullible. They shit on the lawn- often on the neighbor's lawn (and they're not averse to eating it, too). They're pack animals- they do what the leader says.

Cats on the other hand are fastidious and discriminating. They bury their scat, and aren't so easily fool- and rarely over and over.

Cats think ahead- know who to trust, and lie quietly in wait. Dogs run around and bark obnoxiously- often at the slightest provocation.

Sounds a lot like Republicans to me.

9. My cats are NOT Republicans.
Edited on Sun Aug-23-09 02:20 AM by Kitty Herder
They're too independent for that. Repubs seem to be herd animals. Cats are definitely not. My cats are also generous, always sharing their hard-earned wealth by bringing me dead mice and birds, though I really, really wish they wouldn't. Repubs are stingy asses who don't want to pay their fair share of taxes. Cats live and let live. Republicans can't seem to master that skill. My cats support keeping catnip fully legal. Republicans think the world will end if a certain harmless drug for humans becomes so much as decriminalized.

Dogs aren't republicans, either. Animals are too smart for that.

ETA: Thought of another one. My cats always seem to know when I'm feeling down and come to cuddle and comfort me. Republicans like to kick people when they're down. (And who would want to cuddle with a Republican anyway? Yuck. )

The Dems eat together, rub noses while passing each other and occasionally sleep together.

The Repug hates everyone, hisses when a D gets near her, howls for food them hisses at anyone else getting fed at the same time, and has bit me 5 or so times over the last 4 years.
She is a wretched pet, but she would be euthanized if I gave her up.

Edited on Sun Aug-23-09 03:34 AM by Joe the Liberal
but repubs can't be dogs, first of all, any dog out there is ten times smarter than 20 repubs combined. Second of all dogs are pack animals and a dog in a pack plays an important role that helps out the group in one way or another, repubs don't do this. Finally dogs are somewhat loyal, while repubs would turn on you in an instant.

I can't think of any pet out there that a repub would be except maybe a sheep but that's only in terms of behavior, an actual sheep has it's uses. In anything, repubs more fall into the category of a parasite or something along those lines.

And, in my observation, cat people tend to be more liberal on the whole than dog people (yes, I realize many DUers have dogs). Lots of rightwing macho men don't like cats because they like to control people and animals, and cats are too cool to play their game.

54. If pets could vote, then they could be voted for,
and I would have voted for one of my pets before either of the majority choices on the ballot last November.

My dog would make a great president. She's friendly, outgoing, and territorial. She doesn't resort to threat of any kind unless someone poaches on her territory. She looks after everyone in our herd; humans, cats, chickens, sheep, and horses. She works well with them.

Outside the herd? She vigilangly patrols the home place and chases all intruders to the borders. Birds, bunnies, coons, deer, and everything else. Thankfully, skunks have never tried the border. ;)

When someone comes to visit, she welcomes them, but does not give ground. As long as they play by the rules, she is gracious. If they push beyond her boundaries, she pushes back. She smiles and wiggles her stubbed-tail back end, but she also leans on them and pushes them, one step at a time, back into their places.

And of course, all of that effort is on my behalf. I straddle the classes. I come from the working poor, and managed to scrabble upward into the lower middle class after years of work and night school. I've been homeless, I've been without transportation, food, or utilities, and I've been able to find a way to survive, and to sometimes reach out to help others. That's the group she's working to protect and defend. Not the power holders, but those who do the heavy lifting.

She would have voted for Dennis Kucinich, whether he was on the ballot or not.

My cat would have been good, as well. She doesn't work well with others, like the dog. She's pretty much a dictator. A gentle dictator, in my case. When she sits on my chest and pats my face at 4am to get me up, she keeps her claws sheathed. She knows when to ignore, and when to pay attention, and when to pay attention when it looks like she's ignoring.

When she goes hunting, she scores. When she sees fit, she consumes most of the prey herself and offers up head, tail, feet, and guts. More often, though, she presents her victories whole, as a gift. Occasionally, she, in her efforts to teach me to hunt, will present her gifts live and lively, in order to instruct me in her art as a race around the place, dumping furniture and tearing the place apart, trying to catch up with the goal.

She would do the same for Congress. Leave the heads, tails, and feet of some legislation. Leave some whole. And return some live to Congress as lessons. As far as the opposition? She'll eat them alive. She's ruthless, and, when it comes to engaging the enemy, she has no conscience to get in the way of making her kill. Whether it's quick and clean, or whether she chooses to play with it for awhile.

My cat would have voted for Cynthia McKinney, without a doubt.

Cats aren't Democrats or Republicans. They are independents, and it behooves us not to forget their influence.

Dogs? Dogs are Democrats, Greens, and Socialists, unless they've been bred and raised for folks like Michael Vick. Then they are Republicans; they can't help themselves.

Republicans themselves can be sharks or domestic, hybrid turkeys.

And, of course, way too many humans from all walks are lemmings.

70. I completely disagree, cats can think dogs are just dogs.
Cats would be Liberal, dogs would just follow the pack.

71. My new Cat would vote for Howard Dean. She is inexplicably attracted
to Dean's voice on TV, and when he's on, she stops and stares at the screen. She's far too young to vote, but her primary causes would be public health care and the rights of the poor, for she had a rough road getting to us, and she has not forgotten just because she is now fortunate.

Dogs are what their masters are. Many dogs have served fascists and racists, they have chased down many a running minority and returned them to their mutual masters. They have nipped at the heels of fleeing humans, following the orders of Nazis and Klansmen. They helped to keep the prisoners inside at the camps.
No cat has ever done such things, because cats are liberals. Dogs are servants, and they are what their masters say they are. Cats, well, they do not help to capture your slaves for you. Dogs do that. Dogs have been doing their part at Abu Ghrahib and Gitmo. They have been instruments of torture in those places.
Many dogs are present to serve as threats from their owners toward others, we all know this. Dogs will fight each other to the death on command from a criminal. Beware the dog.

76. I disagree
My cat and I have been together for 17 years, there is no way she and I would have lasted this long is she were a Republican. Besides her name is sweetie.......that certainly does not sound like a name for a Republican cat, and I named her that because she is indeed a sweetie. If she were a Republican I would have named her shithead, or dumbass.
