My McGovern Democrat mother --

She's 65, she volunteered for the McGovern campaign in '72. She's been a Democrat her whole life -- she's ready to take down her Obama/Biden sticker from her window, write on it saying "You've lost me," and mail it to the White House.

"The Democrats are such {p-word}s." "I'm so sick of not knowing from what day to the next what Obama is going to say."

She wants Obama to stop trying to "negotiate" and just do something.

FWIW.

PS -- I'm editing out the sexist word because I won't want to get rained on by the PC police here.

She's TIRED of hearing that Grassley is supposedly a good faith actor in this healthcare drama, then hearing Grassley say what he's said to the Republican base, and then the Obama people still letting Grassley have a seat at the negotiating table. She's smart enough to listen to the man Obama himself and the people who speak for him. She wants action, not Sebilius saying the public option isn't that important and Conrad saying that the public option is impossible and Obama saying it's a sliver and then everybody reversing themselves the next Monday.

8. Exactly, lies
Sebelius didn't say it wasn't important, she said it wasn't the most essential part of reform, same as Obama said. They didn't reverse themselves, they said the media had gotten it wrong.

Senators cannot be kicked out of Senate committees because Democrats don't like what they're saying. Grassley is the ranking member of the Finance Committee. He has to have a seat at the table unless you're proposing a dictatorship.

If your grandma's so smart, if she even exists, she should know all of this.

directly without the media filter. We are all frustrated and want what we have waited for- for so long- to happen NOW. I am about her age and I too get impatient and really want to see serious change before I lose my hearing and eyesight (so I can witness it directly) ...ask her what the alternative (realistic) option would be??? Nothing wrong with encouraging her to call and write the Whitehouse and giving them positive feedback on what she DOES want. Always makes me feel better.

He's the one who isn't moving forward with single payer Medicare for all. He's the one who's letting this August recess kill him in the polls. He's the one who's acting like he's still a senator.

He's losing her with his seeming unwillingness to as Maher said "be like Bush" and take his majorities and do what 75% of American want -- really reform healthcare without pandering to the RW-nuts.

10. It ain't over till it's over.
I haven't been happy the last few weeks either. But the process is still ongoing. And August is always silly season. Let's see what starts to happen when recess is over, everybody's had their time to act out (including the pundits who love to/have to portray themselves as knowing what's going on) & Congress comes back and has to get down to business. I'm poised to be as disgusted as your mom, but I'm reserving judgment until the actual business begins & votes are cast.

LOL! McGovern was my very first vote for president. Been there.

I lose civility when people start saying they're done with Obama after SEVEN GODDAMN MONTHS.

There is no difference between them and Rush Limbaugh - who gave up on Pres. Obama before he became president. In my book, they're both the same type of people.

I'm suggesting we judge Obama by his deeds a couple years from now.

IF he fucks up healthcare, fine, piss on him. But you know what? HE hasn't yet, so people need to stop acting like he has.

16. I liked McGovern too, although I was just a few days too young to vote
Living in California at that time, I watched that day as he sunk, then lost the election, all before the polls closed on the west coast. That was what spurred the media to agree not to call a race until after polls had closed everywhere.

Anyway, I remember thinking Bill Clinton was a big mistake during his first year in office, what with the health care catastrophe and the 'don't ask, don't tell'. And he turned out to be about the best president in my lifetime.

So I have hopes that Obama will learn quickly that this negotiation crap is getting him nowhere, along with some other key lessons, and become one of the great ones.

I used to be upset because Democrats seem to lack spine and cave to corporate interests. What's sadly dawning on me is that Democrats don't lack spine. The sad truth is they may have supported corporate interests all along. Perhaps they are just pandering to the left, never having had any intention of enacting liberal legislation.

If that's true, the Democrats deserve to lose a lot of us.
