Ridiculous Tea Party sign: "Leave my lightbulbs alone!"
Did anyone just see that on CNN TV?

Are the protesters so stupid that they don't understand the benefits of LEDs and CFL lightbulbs?

My message to these people: Incandescent is dead. GET OVER IT!

1. Their thinking is firmly rooted in the 19th century.
As are incandescent light bulbs.

15. LED color and brightness are still a little off
but they're getting better. CFLs are not bad for light. 100-20-3 watts power drop is what counts.
There were people that complained electric light didn't look as good as candles or kerosene lanterns too.

I spoof Heston's comment on guns and you go all UBER-liberal.

And in a thread mocking Freepers, no less.

The liberal-pissing match on DU continues... of course as a woman, I'm at a disadvantage :/

5. Oh No!
'They want me to use those new fangled light bulbs I am a conservative I don't change for nobody so you can keep your hands off my lightbulbs'. Besides them being idiots on the face of things these 'conservative' people have to turn everything into a 'lib/con' contest of somekind. It's a damn lightbulb that creates that same amount of light and uses less energy thus saving you money which I guess to them is a bad idea. Oh I get it the new bulbs look different and of course we know that conservatives think that anything that 'looks different' is automatically bad.

6. The teabaggers are essentially anarchists.
To them, all government is bad, and anything that any government anywhere does is always bad. They hate rules, regulations, laws, treaties - anything that puts even the slightest constraint on their behavior. The goal is anarchy - no government at all, dog eat dog, every man for himself.

In some ways, conservatives remind me of primitive cave-dwelling people. In other ways, they remind me of that little white doodle on top of old chicken shit.

17. Maybe government is OK as long as it is right-wing extremist?
I see a pervasive hate and distrust for government in general among the unhinged on the right. They hated Clinton in a similar way to what we see now, and he isn't black. But he was a Democrat, and he was "the gummint", so they hated him.

Their hatred for government actually transcends their racism. They put up with bush since he was "one of them" (God chose him, remember) but now they're right back at it. Perhaps it is effective government that bothers them the most?

Of course, all this is just speculation. I truly can't understand why the right-wing wackaloons believe the crazy things they believe. They seem beyond the reach of reason. It must be some form of mental illness, but I'm not qualified to evaluate their pathology beyond that.

Edited on Sun Aug-23-09 07:45 AM by wroberts189

Totally astounding ignorance.

-no one is saying anywhere or suggesting they are coming after anyone's light bulbs.
-It's their electric bill that's just going to be higher ..less money for them to send to wingnut groups.
-CFL's are just as good these days. LED's getting there. Both are better.

on edit one more ..most states and electric companies make the CFL's cheaper with subsidies.

27. Actually, I believe there is a government mandate to outlaw incandescent bulbs after a certain date.
After that date, you won't have a choice -- you won't be able to get incandescent bulbs anymore, period. So, in a sense, the wingnut is correct; the government will be taking away his incandescent light bulbs.

Frankly, I don't like having ANY choice taken away by a government mandate, just on general principles. I'm not a nanny-state liberal, I'll stand with the guy who doesn't want to be told what kind of frickin' light bulb he's going to be "allowed" to have.

24. When I took over my old movie theater
I changed all the lobby and hallway bulbs from incandescant to CF.

Would you believe that after I closed six years later, one of those original CF bulbs - back when the only ones you could get were the three double-tube varieties - was still working? Shocked me the last time I went through checking bulbs.

The people who are most afraid of LED and CF bulbs taking over are bulb manufacturers who hate the idea of not having to change a bulb every two months.

26. It's the mercury thing...
They bought into the meme about the toxic mercury inside the bulbs. Yeah, there's some mercury in them. It can be released if the bulb is broken. But, it's a tiny, tiny fraction of what gets pumped into the atmosphere by the combusted coal used to light their precious fluorescent bulbs. Meanwhile, I'll bet this "moran" has regular fluorescent tube lights in his kitchen. And, I have no doubt he's been working and shopping under fluorescent lights all of his life. I guess he and his ilk don't understand the meaning of the word "compact".

35. OMG- i got into a pretty heated discussion with a young
man I've known since he was just a baby.

He's a graduate of ..."Liberty University" and a right wing fool. But I can't stop trying to get through to him- he was such a wonderful kid...he and my oldest son, were best friends for years, until he enrolled in a private Christian High School.

anyhow, he was complaining that in 2012 he won't be able to use 'real' light bulbs, because they'll be illegal. This was after he admitted that the "Cap & Trade" HAD been instrumental in lowering the level of ozone and acid rain here in New England, over the last 12yrs.

I actually thought he was joking when he mentioned lightbulbs- and started laughing.

He was deadly serious.

It has got to be part of Rush's mantras- this kid listens to him all day at work-

36. I use CFL whenever I can
But there are some applications where they are very unsuitable and/or have a very short life.

In those situations, its more ecological friendly to use incandescents, as opposed to buying and disposing of a CFL far more frequently.

If someone is proposing outlawing incandescents, I would certainly be against such a law.
