53 Year Old guy I Know That lost His Job

He was doing real well selling manufactured homes. He'd just gotten into that and was finally making real good money for the first time in his life.
Bought one of the homes for himself and looked like he might actually make it to a decent retirement. Then the bottom dropped out and he lost his job. He had to sell his house and move in with his brother and another guy about the same age.
I was talking to him and his brother and they were telling me what happened. I said, "that's too bad. Unless you voted for Bush twice. Then you deserve every bit of #ss f#cking you get!"
I knew all three of those guys, if they voted. voted for Bush. Because we're in Idaho and they are gun nuts. That is the only reason the guys brother could even give me in 2004. "Kerry's gonna take away our guns."
These guys just barely get by renting a house together. None of them have medical or any kind of retirement set up. There is a real good chance the brothers will end up drinking themselves to death. The brother that works is a carpenter that flies under the radar so he doesn't pay taxes or social security or anything.
These guys will go on and on about illegal immigrants getting medical care and social security. My money says they end up racking up thousands in medical costs that the taxpayers will have to eat. I don't even have to ask them what they think of any government run health care. Not a chance if they think it would make Obama look good.
Almost forgot. The guy that lost his job went out and got drunk and got a DUI the first chance he got. That was only a matter of time. Like any redneck half-wit he was spending his unemployment and most of his time at the bar.

He might as well have been trying to get a DUI. Already had a drinking problem. Already left our Eagles lodge noticeably drunk almost every night and drove. Lost his job and immediately ramped up the drinking and spent most of the day at the bar in the lodge.
DUI's are a major industry in this town. He didn't stand a chance. No way he was going to make it more than a month without getting nailed.

...ya gotta hope that maybe a couple laid-off right-wingers somewhere in the country will reflect on their situation, and become a little more 'human' and empathetic.

These three are human beings and deserve dignity and respect like anyone else, even though I'll disagree with every political opinion of theirs...

My older brother and his wife are fairly conservative, except when it comes to healthcare. They have 2 kids and healthcare is hit or miss with them (some jobs offer it, some don't. When they do it isn't very good).

So they rail against illegals, or welfare for the poor, or how climate change is a myth. But they both support single payer medicare for all. Go figure. Its almost like the old saying in reverse: "A democrat is a republican who hasn't been mugged yet". Well, a democrat is a republican with life experience and compassion. I think George Will did the same thing, railed against welfare and government intervention unless it was for autism (which his son has). That welfare is ok because it benefits him directly.

Even my right wing dad who thinks Obama is the antichrist became slightly more liberal after the stock market collapsed and his retirement plans changed. It almost had a moderating effect on him.

I don't know what took so many so long to wake up. Some of us were awake and aware from the get go, then again I grew up around a lot of evangelicals and hearing them gloat and preach about family values and being soldiers of gawd and white power etc ad nausea, and spent a portion of work life in design firm dealing with the very wealthy..I usually felt like I needed a shower after making a delivery at some of these folks winter homes, even if I had not broke a sweat. BTW Leona H was as big a b ch as was reported.

I have brothers and cousins such as you describe.
I even said to some of them prior to the 2000 selection "If W gets in the WhiteHouse we will be at war with Iran and or Iraq in about 2 yrs and your kids will be expected to go". None have and there are a passel that are old enough.

In 2004 I got , "who will protect us?" or should that be pretext?
I told them the election of 2000 was a sham and a shame, 2004 would likely be and we went to war under false pretenses, Iraq didn't have a thing to do with terrorism except maybe what we inflicted with 'Shock and Awe". I got a real ration of crap from them as I spoke to, I have not spoke with any of them since Gramma passed 3 years ago and I might not have spoken to them then either if they had not been at her bedside.
